jpreou
Leg 18 - Cagayan De Oro (RPML) to Kalibo (RPVK) A mid-afternoon departure again from Cagayan De Oro. No fuel there, unfortunately, so departed with just over half tanks. Plenty in the RV for the next trip.Of course, I had to reset the GPS with the flight plan after the previous IFR flight plan I filed had overwritten it, and then reset which particular leg I was on, but all good. Leaving Cagayan De Oro. Taking a look at the nearby town in the daylight this time. On my way A short over water hop, passing overhead Dumaguete (RPVD); no fuel there either. This is Negros Oriental, sometimes called Eastern Negros, a province of the Philippines. The northern end of the island is Negros Occidental http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negros_Orientalhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negros_Occidental I noted my GPS flight plan was going to take me along the hills. With the cloud as low as it was, I decided to vary slightly. I hoped over the low point in the distance and flew a parallel course on the windward side of the hills instead, getting back on track as I cleared the island. Not too far out of my way, and a little safer given the conditions as it minimised the time over higher ground. On the other side of the hills Iloio (RPVI), Philippines. If you Google that you get Iloio Singles and Iloio Black Singles as the first two hits. At least I did. Not sure what that says about the place! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iloilo Anyway, I decided I wouldn't stop here. Again, no fuel. I still had enough, even with reserves, and I wanted to make Kalibo (RPVK). As I flew up the island I ran to the right side of the hills, across the lowlands. Kalibo is the capital of the province of Aklan, in the northwest of Panay Island, Philippines. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalibo,_Aklan Approaching Kalibo (RPVK) my Saitek multipanel, radio panel and switch panel stopped working. This left me with no auto-pilot, no nav/com and no flaps / lights / fuel pump, etc. I treated this as a failure of those systems, and flew the remaining 8nm or so in this manner, checking tha pattern was clear and then making a flapless approach into Kalibo. I guess I'll need to find an engineer to help me out now; I did build the plane, but I may need some help troubleshooting this if it isn't something simple. Then there is the problem of sourcing parts if something is broken. Anyway, I pop the cowl and take a look inside; I could be here some time... Thanks for looking.
