Missing Downtown Toronto Buildings

Recommended Posts

I noticed that I am missing downtown Toronto buildings and CN Tower in P3D v4.3. Also, a few buildings have black texture. I have Orbx FTX Global, Vector, Global Airport pack and openLC NA installed. I removed CYTZ files from the Global Airport pack folder and this didn't solve the problem. I also disabled FlyTampa's CYYZ and this didn't solve the problem. I see red lights where the buildings should be. Are there any files in openLC NA that conflict with the default P3D downtown Toronto skyline? I'm thinking it's a conflict with openLC NA because I didn't have NA installed in P3D v3 and didn't have this problem. Thanks.

Hi,

I have Open_LC NA installed, along with the other addons you mention, and I do see the default Toronto buildings.  There is something else going on.

Can you check if the default Toronto.bgl is in place and active.

Check the following location for "Toronto.bgl":

".......\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\Scenery\NAME\Scenery\Toronto.bgl"

Let us know.

A screen shot of the affected area may also help if the issue persists.

Cheers,

Scott,

I do have the file "Toronto.bgl" in the ".......\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\Scenery\NAME\Scenery\" location. I attached two screen shots of downtown Toronto from CYTZ. One day and one night. If you can see, there are red beacons where CN Tower and other buildings should be in the night picture. Thanks.

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the screenshots.

At this point I have tested all combinations with and without ORBX, and to me it seems like an issue with your P3D installation.

Please check yourself by disabling any ORBX scenery via your scenery.cfg file and see if the buildings reappear.

Did you install P3DV4.3 using a full installer from scratch, or did you update from an earlier version?

Make sure the NAME folder is active in your scenery.cfg file.

[Area.*]
Title=Eastern North America
Local=Scenery\NAME
Layer=*
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE

Also check if you have any other APX files (airport files) with the ICAO codes CYYZ or CYTZ anywhere in your simulator.  They may be contained in scenery files put there by 3rd party AI traffic addons.

Have a look at your Toronto.bgl file.  The size should be 3,875,665 bytes.

In the NAME/Texture file there should be the following files relating to Toronto:

Ok thanks, I'll check that out. Also, I only updated the P3D v4.3 client. I also checked downtown Cleveland which is in the NAME directory and it looked correct. And I have no trraffic addons. I think it happened either when I installed the updated FlyTampa CYYZ or when I installed the Orbx freeware airports. But, I have disabled both and the problem is still there. Unless the Toronto.bgl file is corrupt. P3D is very frustrating sometimes.

Scott,

The NAME folder is active. The Toronto.bgl file is the correct size. All of the Toronto texture files listed are in the NAME/texture folder. I searched and didn't find any CYYZ or CYTZ APX  files. I disabled Orbx Open LC NA and the freeware global airports. Nothing changed. I'm wondering if my Toronto.bgl or Toronto textures are corrupt. Another frustrating P3D problem. Thanks.

Nick

Hello,

as far as I can see, there is nothing wrong with the default toronto.bgl.

2.jpg

although there seem to be errors in the default scenery, like the step in the sea.

This is with all the sliders fully to the right, although you have most of the Toronto.bgl

buildings missing, you also have missing ships and hardly any autogen.

The Toronto.bgl used in my image is attached for you to try.

Thanks Nick. Did you notice that I have different buildings in my screenshot though? The far right waterfront buildings and the two similar buildings in the center of my screenshot.

Well, may I jump on the bandwagon? This is fishy.

I'm running P3Dv4.3, no additional Toronto scenery, Open_LC NA  and Vector installed, all sliders right hand side, NAME folder correctly installed and active, toronto.bgl is available, also the above mentioned Toronto.dds files. Nevertheless is my Toronto display different to the one Nick posted above. Most big buildings are in place, nevertheless I'm missing some buildings on the left side of the picture comparing to Nick's screenshot.

I tried the attached toronto.bgl file but this seems to be the same as the standard one (and makes no difference)

Yes, I am seeing what you are seeing too Dieter.  I'm not sure where the difference comes from.  Some more clues to solve the OP's issue, maybe?

This is with Fly Tampa Toronto installed but disabled, with FTX Global Airport CYTZ active, OpenLC_NA active and Vector active.

Hi Nick,

The pics you see above show what the scenery should look like with the Toronto.bgl active.

Here is what the scenery looks like with the Toronto.bgl inactive:

NvS9Np2.jpg

As Nick mentions above you are also missing a lot of autogen, boats etc.  Do you have your scenery complexity and autogen settings at maximum for testing?  Please do so if you don't.

Are you having autogen or scenery issues elsewhere?

Cheers,

Did you try the replacement file?

Nick,

I did try the replacement file. No difference. I don't know what the problem could be. Unless the actual building.dds files are corrupt. I don't know how to extract that out of P3D. The weird thing is that the red building lights are there at night, but not the building. I really don't want to reinstall P3D just for this issue. I have not seen any other problems like this in my scenery. Thanks.

  • 1 year later...

Apologies for re-activating an old thread, but was anyone ever able to overcome this as it has now happened to me as well, and with Toronto being my home base its extremely annoying.
I used to have the buildings and its been a while since I flew around the city so not sure what has been added since to cause this. Nothing in the Toronto area however.
Running P3D4.5HF3.
If anyone was able to figure out what caused this and has a solution I would be eternally grateful.
