Bernard Nieberg
Wondering if anyone else has come across this? I usually fly low and slow and haven't had a problem. My last couple flights have taken me a bit higher, around 9000’ ASL. Once at altitude the scenery texture below progressively becomes more and more blurry. The terrain also becomes less and less defined as if I have no mesh installed. If I descend there will be a point where all of a sudden everything clears up. Very strange indeed. Doug Sawatzky
Hi Could we get some more info please? Thanks Doug
Bernard Nieberg
P3Dv4.1 Only scenery installed is FTX as per signature. Rex 4 Texture Direct for airport textures, ASCA, AS for P3Dv4 for clouds and wx. Ultimate Traffic Live. Windows 7 Ultimate. I7-6700K @ 4.00, 16gb ram, Nvidia GTX 960. The problem doesn’t seem to be restricted to a specific area, happened so far in California and BC Canada.
Doug Sawatzky
Maybe your settings are too high for the GTX 960?
Bernard Nieberg
That’s possible. Current settings aren’t maxed out. I wondered if LOD or autogen distance were a factor, since at lower altitudes everything works great. I have lowered those somewhat with no effect. Oddly enough, in most circumstances I get better frame rates with the sliders farther right, not that I am chasing frame rates. I have my settings set to give the best detail possible with smooth stutter free flying. What’s your opinion on limiting frame rates internally, externally or not at all? So far I am running unlimited. I have read a few posts stating limiting frame rates helps eliminate blurries. That said, a new video card is on the horizon but need to save some more $$$$$! Nick Cooper
Hello, I would suggest that you limit your frame rate to 24 to start with, that should reduce the blurred scenery. It's only a slider and can be adjusted while the simulator is running.
Doug Sawatzky
Ya, it is definitely a bad time to buy a new video card with the bit coin craze in full motion and all. What happens if you pause your flight for a few minutes when everything is blurry? Does it clear up eventually? For my system, using Unlimited frame rate setting has always worked best. Also, do not use any affinity mask tweak in P3Dv4. Is your GTX 960 a 2GB version?
Bernard Nieberg
GTX 960 4GB GDDR5 I haven’t applied any tweaks to the.cfg Pause doesn’t seem to fix it unless I haven’t waited long enough. Decend to a lower altitude and quickly everything returns to normal. I’ll try limiting FPS as Nick suggests and report back. Thanks gentlemen! Nick Cooper
You might also try "Use high resolution terrain textures", if you haven't already. It requires a restart of P3D to activate the changed setting.
paulb
One further thought. Are your blurries in cockpit view or external view? I find that if I go to external view and start rotating around the aircraft, then I place more demands on the GPU.
Bernard Nieberg
I flew the same route again last night with FPS limited to 24 and a little higher (13,000’). No blurries on that flight, scenery looked great. I have read in so many places unlimited FPS was the way to go, that was the one thing I hadn’t tried, thanks Nick! I will try high res textures today and see what that does. Paul, blurries were in all views, but I rarely switch from VC. Thanks again!
