I also would have liked "glass windows" in the tower. I like to get inside and see out of it, also like the light through it. But as you said above it's a matter of preference.

By the way Marcus, I don't know if you have realized or been told. In Goteborg when you get inside the building and look outside the window effect disappears, I mean the window frames are gone, just an open space to the outside in case you were not aware of it and it could be fixed...

I'll be posting some ESSA shots soon as I've been enjoying the airpot

    Thanks

    Carlos

Yes, none of my interiors except the one I did for Bromma has been intended to visit with drones. Their only purpose is to look good from the outside. That's also why we haven't featured the interiors in any shots or in the promotional video.

I understand some of you wish this was done in a different way. Totally get that, there are some really exciting interiors done by competitors.

My focus and interest is airside, what you will see from the pilot seat or as a ramp agent. That is where my focus has been and will be moving forward. If anything I think there might be less interiors moving forward to be honest. I'm sorry about that!

I understand I'm in a business where I'm depending on people buying my products for me to make a living, but I need to do products I believe in and then that would be the priority with the limited time we have for our projects to make them profitable. If people would stop buying because of reasons like this, then I might need to look for another job :)  All good though, I'm happy as long as I can do products I believe in and if that wouldn't make the cut anymore, fine.

Bought it today and took a good amount of time to explore it!

First of all, congratulations @Marcus Nyberg and team, I've followed the journey on Facebook (thanks for those updates, was great fun to follow it there!) and I'm really happy how Arlanda turned out, it's a fantastic airport and definitely worth upgrading to in my mind!

It really feels like Arlanda, with all the attention to details to clutter, vehicles, terminals etc, I can see it's been a labour of love!

As always I will list some of my personal positives and negatives, though I list a few negatives, they are very small compared to the positives!

    The Positives:

+Accurate to the real-world airport as far as I can tell
+ Great variety of really high-quality airport vehicles that are accurate to the ones used at Arlanda (including moving ones) and with lot of detail
    + Fantastic night lightning
+ Runways, taxiways, taxiway signs etc looking realistic with nice textures
+ Modelling of the terminals is top-notch
+ Lot of nice clutter that is local to Arlanda
+ Good looking jetways supporting VDGS (not tried them out yet)
+ Texturing in general is really good
+ Lot of interiors included, all main terminals towards the airside are included with good attention to detail (local shops and restaurants etc
+ Probably the best airport I’ve seen in snowy conditions, with even snow banks along the sides and great looking plows etc. Taxiways and runways free of snow.
+ Cargo areas included with great detail

    The Negatives:

    - Some might find it a bit expensive, but given the effort I can see why it’s priced as it is
    - Tower was a disappointment, there are some interior modelling (all-though not looking finished) but with the opaque windows you cannot see it, maybe they will update this in an upcoming patch, not sure
    - Land side is lacking (as in front of the terminal etc), obviously not a priority but good to know in case you think it’s important
    - I would’ve preferred some parallax windows instead of opaque windows on the airside, but more a personal preference and since most have interior design it’s not a big issue
    - Some lower res textures in places, probably to optimize performance, but not in crucial places (more roofs etc)

Given performance, time etc, I think the balance is really good, so I definitely think the priorities worked out well in that regard.

Looking forward to explore more and will fly in and out of Arlanda a lot!

Once again, thanks for the best rendition of Arlanda ever in a flight sim!

    Hey,

    Thank you for your thoughts.

I'm very proud of the product and there is not anything I would have done differently but totally respect we all have different opinions.

    Take care,

    Marcus

What will your next project be @Marcus Nyberg? 😋

    We have not decided yet.

I want to do a package with northern swedish airports like Luleå, Umeå, Östersund and Skellefteå. But might be something else in between. I have started on a very different project as well that we'll see if that will continue or not.

Also I'm porting Kiruna & Scandinavian Mountains Airport for free for existing ESMS customers hopefully later this summer.

Think we need to see a bit how the sales go first as well with ESSA, need to support my family which of course will have an impact on the kind of project I need to pick.

In addition to the great news this highly anticipated airport has now been released, I again want to salute the always so friendly and transparent approach (no pun intended) from Marcus side.

10 out of 10 for that Marcus 👍

Thank you, Marcus, for a real piece of art!  I have an old CPU so was worried about bad frames at such a large airport.  However, I found the frame rates quite acceptable for my 3 screens in surround at 5760 X 1080.

I spent some time just taxiing around the airport enjoying the views and the ground traffic which is great.  I happend to be airside looking at the Sky City area when I shifted to see the night views.  Wow!  Sky city is stunning through all the windows!  Fabulous!  The airport lighting was just awesome.

I will enjoy many hours visiting this stunning airport.  Grreat job!

    Hello Markus,

Thanks for this, many including myself have been waiting for your ESSA project.   I will be reviewing it on my YouTube channel next week.

I note that it says " . . . Animated vehicles with weather & time influenced appearance (optional) . . . "   How is this option selectable?

    Cheers,

    Lee

    Hey there Lee!

On the product page in Orbx Central there is a Configuration button you can press which gives you the options to disable some features like the animated vechicles for instance.

Let me know if you can't find it!

    Cheers

    Marcus

Wow, so much looking forward to fly into Arlanda later today!!

Also want to add, what a perfect timing to release it just in time for the weekend when many of us have some more time to fly.

Thanks Marcus and the rest of your team for all the hard work and effort to make this happen!

Thanks Richard, we actually put the release a day earlier than planned as we were ready and we figured the community would have more time to enjoy it :)

Plus tomorrow will be cloudy and possibly rainy at least where I live in Sweden (after 5 weeks of sunny weather), so a perfect day to do some simming ;)

let's hope for the best Wayne

Performance is a number one priority, the complexity might look intensive but the models are quite low-poly and we try to use PBR & normal maps wisely and reduce the use where they are not adding any value. Same with model complexity, we keep a lower profile on landside details and some interior complexity. We hope to provide a beautiful experience from the pilot seat and airside environment and save in on other things. We also have an extensive use of LOD's to load up more detail the closer you are.

Also, you will be able to turn off features in the configuration tool if bought at Orbx directly to reduce details if you want more performance.

I wouldn't add eye candy that ends up with a product that can't be used :)

With that said, I'm SO much looking forward being able to fly to ESSA in MSFS!

...and edited to add, I love what you mentioned about that bundle. A friend of mine flying for Ryanair just moved back home to start flying domestic. Will be great being able to replicate his flying in MSFS and run on some of the airports he's flying to 👍

Thanks for the support Richard! :)

And must be a nice job your friend got, even though think many of us got a mixed bag of opinions about Ryanair ;)

Just wanted to say thanks @Marcus Nyberg again for the awesome Bromma scenery! Now with the ATR available, the first flight was obvious! Bromma to Visby, especially as I did it (as a passenger) last weekend!

Truly enjoyed it and your scenery really made the difference :)

Thank you so much, so nice to see :)

There is a Scandinavian VATSIM event next week for Bromma if you fly online, will hopefully be a hectic evening :)

Sorry, no :)  but I argue that it's better that we do it properly than get it out sooner. Things just tends to take more time than I anticipate.

But we are seeing the finish line now at least!

On it's way :) I'll add some screenshots if you are not following the facebook page. Just want to point out a nice detail, we got 17 different cargo container liveries and perhaps 7 different models for them. All grabbed from the real airport :)

Holy cow! You never cease to amaze me. I very seldom pay a visit to these forums but every time there is an update from you, my jaw drops. I purchased your Bromma, Malmö and Göteborg already, and Arlanda will be an instant-buy, obviously, too. Can't wait for the ATR to be released, I will surely "base" one in ARN and another one in BMA to crisscross Sverige.

Speaking about crisscrossing Sverige, I am also hoping that you will one day consider some of the less "mainstream" Swedish regional airports (including but not limited to former NextJet destinations) such as Sundsvall, Östersund, Örnsköldsvik Umeå, Lycksele, Vilhelmina, Skellefteå, Luleå...  🙂

Thank you for the kind words. I am actually looking at a bundle with Östersund, Umeå and Luleå. We have great material for all of them and they would make lots of sense with the rest of the route network. But one thing at a time :)

    Hej Marcus

I don't know if you can engage yourself in this.
However I got a problem with Bromma.

I'll get CTD almost every time I approach Bromma beginning at 5-10 nm, or trying to depart, usually at lining up or shortly after t/O.
I actually got CTD every time I was closing Arlanda from the South at a distance 20-30 NM from ESSA, and then I disabled ESSB and everything begin working and so I found out Bromma was the problem.
    But only in VR.
It began after I bought myself a new computer (I9-13900, RTX 4090, 32Gb mem) recently and installed everything from scratch.
Also I went from win 10 to win 11. I have the same problem with Orbx ENGM, but not with ESGG or ESMS or plenty of other airports.
I rasied a ticket but Nick said Orbx don't support VR!
So I feel pretty helpless and wonder if you can offer any clues to this.
The Bromma scenery is just fantastic, and I learned flying there so it's my homefield so to say.

    Mvh

    Hey Mats,

First of all, congrats on the 4090! I've been looking at that since the release but wow, that price. Thought my 3090 was expensive. But still... can't take my eyes off it :)

Regarding the issues you are having I'm sorry to hear about your experience.

I'm not sure what could be the issue to be honest. There are not that many similarites in the development techniques between ESSB & ENGM so that is surprising you got issues on those two airports. Would have made more sense if ESMS had issues as they share a lot when it comes to the tech. Do you run GSX or any other addon for the area that can combined with ESSB cause a conflict?

I'm making a performance update for ESSB when we are done with ESSA so if anything pops up that can help me fix it, that would be a good time. We've not heard about anyone experiencing CTD's as far as I remember, but hm....

I'll write you an email instead, maybe there is something we can look at.

    Cheers,

    Marcus

Just arrived and it was such a stunning area to come into and the airport looks amazing. My departure I’ll definitely be looking around more! I did take a bit of a hit on the smoothness but that’s okay, maybe I need to tweak a little.

also, out of curiosity for the real world airport; on the green gates and in the A320, do the parking lines not match up? I followed the VDGS which precisely and perfectly lined me up to the ramp and that’s when I noticed after shutdown that the wheels weren’t lined up.

Thank you for the kind words :)

They are mostly decoration. The jetways can only move on two axis and not three like normal jetways can and it is hard to set the lines to fully match the VDGS for different aircrafts. For jetways in the simulator that move on three axis the VDGS is set to match the parking line rather than the jetway position, for N-type and T-type jetways the VDGS is rather set up to match the boundaries of the jetway's movements. So just follow the VDGS and you'll be fine.

I FIGURED IT OUT ! - This was confusing. This was the airport that I bought two times by mistake. I bought it first IN GAME and then later I bought it in Orbx. I wish it would somehow check if you have it... I have now removed the in game version and now I see the new version.

Its amazing work as usual. Cant wait for ESSA. Must be quite some work to get that one done in all its glory..
    Thanks for your support !

Thank you so much! And sorry to hear you bought it twice, but happy you figured out the issue :)

    Hello,

I have the update loaded and installed from the Orbx application but I don’t think the update did take.

I don’t see the glass jetways.

I have GSX and I have the right settings there to see the developers gates for this airport.

    what can be wrong ?

    thanks, Christer

    Hey Christer,

Have you tried to reinstall the scenery just to be sure the update process wasnt corrupt?

    Perfect, thanks!

Like I said, highly unlikely I'll ever need to use it though. Just out of curiosity, where was this instruction mentioned which I apparently overlooked?

A follow-up question on the static aircraft topic, what are the pros and cons of instead using the built-in sliders for aircraft parked on the ground in MSFS? Meaning you won't need a config tool but can instead set the sliders in MSFS as you wish. Which will determine the amount of static/parked aircraft you'll see in the scenery.

Not sure I follow your follow-up question. We make custom statics with fueling trucks, etc to create a immersive environment, not sure it's the same as just using the built in sliders that just places AI as statics, if I understand it correctly! :) Also, for ESGG the only statics we had in the update are 3 business jets in one corner of the airport, there were no commerical airplanes at either cargo or the terminals, they have been removed :)

As for the first question, if you look at the image you posted with the config tool options I think you can see it :) I would probably also have missed it, who reads a title in a config tool! But yeah it was the most in-your-face solution we could think of ;)

  18. 24 minutes ago, WebMaximus said:

Oups, I didn't. However, like you guess I won't be enabling static aircraft anytime soon 😂

The file you mention where MSFS keeps this information, would that be in ...\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\SceneryIndexes\Orbx-airport-esgg-gothenburg.dat ?

If so and I for whatever reason would like to see static aircraft, I delete this file and then enable static aircraft before starting MSFS?

Yes, exactly. In our testing that worked nicely :)

Not optimal bug, but we figured it was nice to have a config tool and this was the best solution we could come up with :)

  19. 12 minutes ago, WebMaximus said:

Even before starting MSFS up, I smile to myself when I see this kind of thing. Once again, I wish more developers would follow your lead in so many ways Marcus - brilliant!!

Thanks Richard, glad you appreciate it :)

Hope you took the recommendation on the top to start the sim once before making any changes. MSFS2020 creates a record for the addon where it lists what files to load from the scenery the first time you run the simulator after the scenery has been added. If you disable something before running the sim then you are not able to enable that feature later on as it didn't register that file. If you just run the simulator once after installation without deactivating anything you can then deactive and re-activate things as much as you like.

I got a feeling you won't reactivate statics though, but good to know :)

If you make changes prior to the first time you start the sim after you installed the scenery, the only way to reset this is to delete a file in MSFS2020 to force the simulator to rebuild the database for the scenery. No harm in that, it just creates a new set the next time you run the simulator, but might be good to know.
