Windows suddenly takes longer to boot... Any help?

Just reinstalled FSX a few weeks ago. I don't think I put two and two together at the time, but when my PC took longer to boot was after I reinstalled FSX. My HDD is a WD 1TB which I keep all my FSX stuff and other games on. It's about 500 GB full. My SSD that Windows is on is a Samsung 840 Evo 120 GB and has 80 GB free. I scanned for viruses and nothing came up.

This is so weird, why is Windows suddenly taking longer to boot? It was fine before, hell, it barely made it to the end of the Windows loading animation! is this attributed to the amount of data on my SSD? What could be the issue here? When booted, my PC runs perfectly, but this increased bootup time has my puzzled.

Any ideas?

Have a look at the windows temp folder and delete anything that is in there. Could your recently installed FSX still have cab and dll files in there which I suspect windows has to scan / index while starting?

I can safely delete anything in the temp folder? i deleted a ton of stuff out of there before, I'll have to check it out!

Also, how do I check if there's cab/dll files for FSX, and what would I do about them?

You can select Disk Cleanup on the drive's

property page.

Make sure that when it has

first run all the boxes are ticked and then

select clean up system files.

This will remove virtually all redundant files.

I doubt that this will make any difference as you

already have adequate free space.

On the Tools page you might wish to optimise

the drive.

You might also look at what any anti-virus software

is set to do at boot time.

Ok, so deleting everything in the temp folder is safe?

I'll try that and see what happens.

on the main page there are listed:

Windows 7 (all versions)

Windows 7 (SP1)

Windows 7 (Retail)

choose in the section that is applicable for your OS what you plan to do, it is all explained very clearly, just a matter of reading up, and no it is not the one size fits all automated duda,
