thebigbang
Hello all, I bought/installed FTX Global and installed it (with no issues) in my FSX folder, which was in Program Files (X86). This is the Steam FSX edition, by the way. I have encountered several issues due to Microsofts restrictions placed on the Program Files (X86) folder. So I moved Steam and the games to my C: root. All the other games and simulations are fine. Including FSX. Here is the issues: When I try to reintall FTX Global, it keeps wanting to put the files back into my previous directory. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX". I do not want it there, but it keeps forcing it. I want FTX Global in my new directory, which is: "C:\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX" When I start the FTX Central, it gives me an error, which states: ----------------------------------------------------------- FTX CENTRAL Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attemp to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately. Could not find file "C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\terrain.cfg.". ----------------------------------------------------------- Of course it can't find "terrain.cfg" in the FSX folder...I moved it! When I click "continue", the pop-up alert error closes, then FTX Central just keeps on saying, "Loading...". So, I am hoping someone can guide me on how to rectify this issue asap, as I would love to get fying using the FTX stuff again. Thank you!
Wolter van der Spoel
you will need to adapt the registry path to the new / correct location HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\10.0\ and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\10.0\ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\10.0 SetupPath
thebigbang
Hi, Thank you for the response. The registry path you have shown is a bit different than mine. Mine is HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator-Steam Edition So I have located that. However, where in the registry do I actually change the path? EDIT: Actually, I found the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\10.0\" I clicked on the AppPath and I see the path: C:\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\ This is the correct path to where I moved FSX. What should I change that to? Will this actually fix the FTX Global and FTX Central issue?
thebigbang
I gather there won't be any more help.
Nick Cooper
Unless your operating system is 32 bit, try to modify HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\10\SetupPath from C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX to C:\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\
Wolter van der Spoel
Sorry Can't help you with the steam edition as I don't know the inner workings of it, one thing is that the main ORBX folder needs to be installed in the main fsX folder, when located somewhere else it is not possible to give the proper support as we cannot trace and analyze every single install out there, therefore the installers are setup to find the registry entry of fsX so they can install to the correct location, they are not setup yet for fsX Steam Edition
Rob Newman
You can always try running the FSX registry fix tool... do a Google search for "FSX registry fix" and you should get the results you need. The Flight1 version seems to work for me... you run it, it asks where your FSX folder is, then it automatically adjusts all the appropriate registry entries. Let us know how you get on... thebigbang
Hi all, The "FSX registry fix" is what ended up finding the registry error and fixed it. Very handy tool! Seems like things are working again. Thank you!
