  1. More than dozens... Every single airport within the region boundary is upgraded to the same level... Granted, they're not all larger, regional airports, but go to a few of the smaller strips and you'll see the same
  2. Not yet... Well... I have smaller, "fun" ones, including a Blade Nano QX FPV with a headset, but nothing I would consider a "proper" drone. I am however hoping to get a Mavic Pro pretty soon... There's a lot of cool walking trails round here, and it would be nice to take it out on those... Plus I wouldn't mind breaking into a little commercial stuff in due time. How's the video quality of the Mavic?
  3. I see you have FTX Vector... once you ran the automatic tool in the Vector control panel, did you also click "Apply"? It's an easy step to miss...

  6. I use SIMstarter myself too. Obviously, with my setup, I have a lot of scenery in lots of different countries, and I also fly some pretty heavy metal from time to time... A good setup I've found is to have "regional" profiles set in SS, two for each region... so I have a North American General Aviation profile, and a North American Airliner profile... the GA profile has high settings and all airports in North America active, the Airliner profile has lower settings to help with the heavy performance hit of the airliners I fly, and only large airports active. Similar for Europe, Asia etc. Then I have a full global setup with everything active, in case I want to do some trans continental stuff. Something to bear in mind as you get deeper into the rabbit hole that is fight sim
  7. That's entirely subjective. The Lights Configurator simply changes the size of the light globe effect, and the colouration to a degree. Some prefer more yellow lighting, some prefer more orange. View range can be slightly better if you use larger sized effects, but it's down to what you prefer.
  8. One of the great things about flight simming is the massive variety of setups that can run it. One of the most annoying things about is flight simming is the massive variety of setups that can run it. The problem with giving you an answer for this would be that it's hard to know just what you can achieve on your new rig as each and every rig appears to be different and get different results. Additionally, FSX is not P3D and they too give different results to each other, even on the same rig. The variables are just too numerous. That said, a good rule of thumb is to start with all settings as high as they can go. Give the sim a try, and if you're not happy with the results, start tweaking things down. In the case of night flying, and therefore night lighting, I would suggest keeping the autogen sliders as high as you can (which will maximise the density of the lighting) and move other settings down as a priority, but that's about the best I can say. Let us know how you get on, and feel free to share some of your screenshots
  9. Aother thing might be the Vector AEC setting... Vector comes with thousands of files that are designed to correct default airport elevations. If you install a third party airport (even a non-Orbx one), It will often come with it's own corrected elevation and can conflict with Vector's efforts. Not all worlwide default airports get the Vector AEC treatment, but Palm Springs is one such airport that does. Check your Vector control panel, and on the last tab, "Airport Elevation Corrections", disable Vector's AEC files by one of two methods... 1. (Easiest) Click the "Run Automatic Configuration" button, give it a few minutes to scan your library for all possible conflicts then when the completion message appears, click the "APPLY" button. Done. 2. (Not automatic, but a little quicker for one airport) Find KPSP in the list on the left by typing it into the blank text box above it. Click the arrow button to transfer it to the "diabled" list, click the "APPLY" button. Done. For just one airport, the two methods are just as easy... but once you start getting more (or FTX Region packs), the automatic config is a lot easier
  10. You won't find it in FTX Central... It's a small program that gets ran automatically when you install a new piece of Orbx software... it's done in the background, so you probably don't ever realise it It can be ran manually though... You can find it in the ORBX/Scripts/ folder that is inside your main sim directory. For example, in my case, it's here: S:\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3\ORBX\Scripts Just right click on the icon called "FTXConfigrator.exe" and then click "run as administrator"... It'll do all the hard work for you.
  11. I had all my P3D settings at max (except shadow quality one away at "High", max texture size of 2048, dynamic reflection off and approximately 25% ai traffic). I also was running Active sky Next realtime weather, with some relatively dense clouds. Typically, in a default sim, I'd get about 25fps around KSEA in that situation (That's my usual benchmark for testing settings). PNW gives me around 22fps, and the full FTX Global setup as shown in the screen captures was 25fps. With typical P3D/FSX settings, somewhat lower than what I used here, that will only increase. At the end of the day, the full FTX Global experience was pretty much identical performance wise to default, despite having much higher detail and density. This has been holding true no matter where I end up flying (incidentally, I was getting around 70fps in the more rural, less urbanized areas!). I wouldnt call that discordant Tongass Fjords is actually a different product. It is more akin to an FTX full region and includes a lot of additional content and value beyond basic landclass, vector and textures. Indeed that's why there is a gap between Orbx SAK and PFJ full regions, as Tongass Fjords fills that gap perfectly. In other words, the combination of FTX Global Base, FTX Vector, and FTX Global OpenLC North America - Alaska/Canada (not the current USA/Mexico package in testing), is going to give a hugely upgraded view, but not to the same level as Tongass Fjords. Just the same as FTX full regions are higher fidelity.
  12. Hi all... For those that are eagerly awaiting OpenLC for flying around the Pacific Northwest, here's a few shots of a tour over Washington from my last testing run. Of course Orbx PNW full region gives even better detail, but I think we can all agree it's a massive improvement over default, and even a huge incremental improvement over FTX Global. But see for yourself... All screenshots taken in P3D V3.2, using Activesky live weather, FTX Global Base, FTX Global Vector, FTX Global OpenLC North America.   13. Hi all... Almost with us now Here's a quick story of my time so far in Telluride. Arriving early one morning in a rented Twin Star, I stopped to admire toys of the jet set... Caught a cab to the lodge, the snow is getting a bit thin this time of year, but that's the advantage of being nearly 10,000ft above sea level Ascended to the ski runs in style, taking in the views looking back toward the airport... And did a little fishing in the creek... Sadly, it was just a quick getaway, but at least I got to go back to see the airport. My Twin Star is waiting for me, gassed up and ready to go... Preflight complete, and setting up the avionics... Only one way out of Telluride, using Rwy 27. The Obstacle Departure Procedure specifies an initial heading of 276 after takeoff up to 10,000ft, then intercept and follow the Cones VOR ("ETL", 110.20) radial 097 to the VOR, then climb in the hold to 12,400 if you're not already there. And this would be why there's only one way out! Taxiing to the runway... And just in case you don't trust your avionics, here's the view to the east Climbing out, 10,000ft. Time to switch from flying a heading to flying the VOR course... That ground is still pretty darn close though! On our way home... I'll be sure to come back soon though! Jarrad has done a stellar job as usual, and the Telluride Airport has is highly customizable for any setup. As an FTX Global airport, It does of course require that the FTX Global base pack be installed, but control panel options will provide options for users with or without Vector. Performance for those interested is excellent, and in these screenshots using P3D V3.2 with all setting max (except shadow quality at medium) as a stress test, on my laptop, I was getting a constant 30fps. On my desktop with a GTX 980 I was getting an average of 50fps. I won't spoil it though... See for yourself
  14. Another thing to consider is this... ASN is a real time weather engine... it loads actual real world conditions into the sim. If you don't see any fog outside, you'll not see it in sim. REX Weather Architect is NOT a weather engine (in the traditional sense). It simply allows you to create a weather "theme" and load it into the sim. So if all you want is the ability to create your own custom weather, exactly how you want it, the REX WA is a good choice. If you want to see actual conditions in real time, REX WA will not fit the bill, but ASN will.
