... I was also surprised that the airport was not closed for some time - even the media reporting about these landings pointed that out - ... but maybe there will be at least some hard talk with the people who were in charge there.

But who in their right mind would allow

Immediate divert should have been the case

The one by the A310 (I believe it was a 310) was the most impressive. Right on with the centerline on touchdown. Imagine the pressure of landing a ~300,000lb hunk of metal in those conditions with the added pressure of 70+ lives in your hands. Remarkable!

When it all comes down to it we are all nature's play things. In my book It's hats of to the pilot who had the sense to abort his landing.
