---
Tried everything. Changing poolsize, swap_wait_timeout_ etc.... (Back to the standard fsx.cfg in the meantime) No change concerning this problem; e.g. departing on 27, turning right into the downwind for 16 for a few seconds, pulling up into a half cuban 8 and seeing this: The black ones even increase for a few seconds and the 'white' airport is filled with the correct textures the closer I get. So for a few seconds the scenery looks that way which is a real show stopper. (Happens in every direction BTW) Never had this problem before....and this time I checked the manual for this kind of problem, honestly! ---
I can fly between 5-500ft @ 550kts without getting this effect. It's just when I start going vertical and hence gaining altitude, which is essential because this scenery would look magnificent from above without this effect. BTW, at 50 or 200ft maybe we just cant see the black tiles ;-) As mentioned, don't have this at e.g. flytampas VHHH Regards Bernt

Gurdy
I cop that too guys....it seems to be a problem with the fill rates for the textures. I have narrowed it down as to what is causing it. I thought it might be memory exhaustion on the video card..... I will be playing more over the weekend... see if tweaking settings further improves it. For the guys not getting in ... u DEV doods.. maybe you can let us know what tweaks you are running at .... Cheers Craig.

Das werd ich dann mal versuchen und berichten.. However, I believe the driver alone will not fix the problems. I have just tried the Fokker 100 again. Only 6.5 FPS at approach and thats a plane which works very well with my other sceneries. I will try to lower the resolution again even though I havnt found a big difference last time. Additionally I will try to reduce "Autogen" slowly and hope to see some improvement. Beside that I would like to try a few tweaks which I havnt done yet but of course I prefer to hear from OrbX what works best or not in order to avoid mistakes and spending half of my life to finetune the scenery. triangle
Sorry to be a pain, but the 177.39 set does not appear to be developed for the 8800 series cards? Atleast, the Nvidia product supported list does not include the 8800s with the 9800 cards only just added as supported by the drivers .... Heiko Glatthorn
FSX primarily calculates the textures to be loaded ahead of your direction of flight (makes sense, doesn't it...). If you make a fast turn like Cuban 8, you will look towards texture tiles, which didn't have priority and your hardware must hurry to catch up. In this particular case Quad core CPUs got sure an advantage. And as a rule of thumb - if you see black tiles, your settings are too high for what your hardware is capable of... . ---
Heiko, >FSX primarily calculates the textures to be loaded ahead of your direction of flight Makes sense ;-) >If you make a fast turn like Cuban 8, you will look towards texture tiles, which didn't have priority and your hardware must hurry to catch up That's what I assume ( >if you see black tiles, your settings are too high for what your hardware is capable of... Well, I don't think that flytampas VHHH is less demanding. The VHHH scenery is MUCH more dense than YMML and I never have this problem there. FYI, I turned EVERYTHING OFF in the orbx menu, plus scenery sparse, texture res 1m and still this happens. (Even in FSX native mode) Framerate never drops below 40 so at least it's smooth as silk Also when I load a flight and I'm looking towards the terminal, it takes at least 5sec for all textures to load..... Really strange. Just I basic question. I love this scenery very much. Will I have to live with this fact (which is not too big a problem) or do you guys consider looking into this if it might be possible to improve this from the design side and not by upgrading the hardware. ---
Just did that and a bit more ;-) 2 more things; I noticed that when going over the top, the scenery tiles are already there. Just a moment later the black tiles start to appear and then to disappear after a few seconds. Futhermore when using the top down view and zooming faaar away, when zooming back in again, the YMML airport textures are initially there, suddenly everything becomes white and thereafter the airport textures need about 5sec to reload again... Maybe this helps in troubleshooting ? Bernt
John Venema
Bernt, you simply can't compare YMML to VHHH - they are completely different animals, made with vastly different design approaches and texture resolutions. And the key difference is texture repetition, of which there is virtually none at YMML. I have placed a FAQ to explain these difference here: http://orbxsystems.com/forums/index.php?topic=4483
Heiko Glatthorn
Bernt, which resolution do you use ? The GTS isn't exactly a race horse... My 8800 GTX (650/1500/2000) struggles at 1920x1200 and will be replaced by a 280 GTX. Did you overclock your system ? Or do you run stock FSB 1066 (1333) ? Guest Schubido
Hi I dont have such problems with FL Tampa Kai Tak, Dreamteam Zürich X or even London Heathrow. Its to easy to see the limits just within the hardware. My FSX with my current rig has been running like silk before I installed YMML. Yes, I have texture redrawing issues with other airports but not like that. We talk msec compared to seconds !!!! There must be something which has a influence on the FPS drop and I would highly appreciate that the team at Orbx will have a closer look analysing and getting this issues resolved since it couldnt be that we will be again in the hardware upgrade circus. If YMML is to much hardware demanding its simply the wrong approach. Yes, I agree that words have been given that a mid range rig will be needed to run it efficiently but the rig I have is better than mid range. I furthermore believe that before everybody is trying to tweak, to reinstall, to change hardware etc. the OrbX team should carefully analyse (isolate) some of the problems. Again FSX was running like silk up to now on my rig. Why should I do all the action now just to get YMML up to the same performance like I have with my other progs ? I am waiting for a general and not a specific solution since I believe that most people with mid range hardware using YMML will unfortunately experience a performance drop. To be fair , why should I reduce my slider settings down to a level where picture quality will be limited since if I never had to reduce the sliders with all the other progs I currently using. I like what Orbx is doing. I am a big fan of your sceneries, all your fantastic support, all your new and fresh ideas etc. which really had and have a very positive impact for FSX. What I dont like is the actual way trying to resolve the low performance issue with YMML. I dont care at all if a low power Dell laptop runs YMML like silk. I am only looking for a solution why my "mid range to high end " pc is not performing like expected producing very low FPS only with YMML. And to be open I am not willing to reduce the slider settings just for YMML loosing the advantage of a nice looking environment with my other progs or even with AU Blue or Gold. YMML is probably much more sophisticated compared with any other add-on. However its not only the beauty or the features which counts, sometimes its simply the right balance between the nicer look vs performance issues since we dont walk or drive with a car through the airport but like to fly. Regards Stefan
---
John, thanx for the explanation but as I already mentioned, I turned EVERYTHING OFF in the orbx menu, plus set the scenery to sparse, texture res 1m (looks very similar when set to 15cm) and still this happens. (Even in FSX native mode) with a 640MB GPU. When I look at the increadible big amount of buildings at VHHH, many of them with different textures, compared to a few airport buildings, I doubt that there's so much repeating at VHHH. IGS approach lights, etc... Still I I can crank the scenery details up and don't have this problem. You mentioned flightscenery. That's a perfect example (FZ2 is even better)! This scenery was made from pilots for pilots. BUT I remember the texture loading problem was VERY similar! I noticed especially in the screenshot section that most people are exited about the landside details at YMML and 'driving' around the airport.  Apparently YMML is more for the detail interested than for the pilots.... ;-) That's ok and as you have explained a completely different design approach. (I can't see these details anyway because everything is switched off BUT on the other hand, in the caravan, at 500ft over the airport I do get constant 115fps). So the answer to my question, if there's anything planned to get rid of this black tile problem, is no if I interpret the FAQ correctly. However, let me point out that flying over YMML @ 500kts and 5ft, zooming up over the apron and looking back down is a really breathtaking experience ) I happily admit that despite this 5sec problem, I prefer YMML over any other scenery !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (BTW, keeping the aerobatic session very close to the airport gets rid of this problem) Looking forward very much to your next airports Regards Bernt Stolle  Capt 767  > as austrian airlines are beeing sold now, there is a realistic possibility that we will resume our SYD and MEL flights with a new owner ) ------------- Heiko, Nothing overclocked. NZ255
I'm not sure some people realise that scenery, (lots of models to load, texture to load) has an effect on FPS. It's not a *problem* that FPS go down. You get less FPS (especially in FTX YMML) because there so much *stuff* to load and your computer can't keep up with it all. Highly complicated scenery, aircraft, anything will take time and resources to load and display this, and if your computer struggle to load this in time FPS will go down. It's not a problem.....it's life Nick

---
New, even worse texture loading problem. Finally, instead of flying very close within the airport boundary, I tried flying with the LDS 767 into MEL. Problem #1: The fps are really very low @15fps (still with all options turned off and scenery sparse....with the default C208 I do get 115fps at this setting) Problem#2: The texture loading problem even occurs IN the direction of flight AND at 150kts. Flying the ILS everything is fine (if one disregards the very low framerate) until about 6NM. Suddenly, the whole airport becomes white again and at 5NM the (detailed?) airport textures are finally slowly loaded filled with the random black tiles in between. Sigh. Do I have to accept the fact that I can a) fly only with non-complex planes into MEL due to the low frame rate? fly only within 2NM around the MEL without getting the texture loading problem? It's really beautiful but it's use becomes more and more limited with every hour of experimenting at MEL. (Not to mention how much time the virtual pilots are wasting while trying to get rid off all these problems)
Heiko Glatthorn
Bernt, for some useful links regarding over clocking visit this topic : http://orbxsystems.com/forums/index.php?topic=3839.0 I know it doesn't help anybody, but i never had the black tile problem even at very high traffic settings. The only texture delay i can see, is on MTX aircraft when i switch the view direction very fast. I run an E8500 at 3.8 GHz, FSB1600, 8800 GTX 650/1500/2000 (1920x1200 with secondary monitor at 1280x1024), 2x2 GB Mushkin CL4 at 800 MHz and Vist Ultimate 64 bit. So there is a bottleneck in your system which affects heavily texture loading. Difficult to say what exactly it is - but overclocking will help for sure. Did you check if you run the PCI slot 16x (and not 1x) ? Which kind of Virus scanner do you use ? If the Virus scanner fat fingers FSX files it can cause blurries or delays. How do you defrag (sorry if you posted this already) ? Btw - it's quiet obvious that Vista 64 handles memory and texture processing much better than 12 (?) year old XP... John might skip in here and give a comment. edit: forgot to mention, i use a 150 GB Raptor dedicated to FSX only. The files are therefor on the outer faster tracks and got a defrag by file name. John Venema
@Mango - Bernt's issue is his 2GB of ram. Bernt, I just finished making the YMML trailer video http://orbxsystems.com/forums/index.php?topic=4505.0 Straight capture at 1280x720x32 resolution from FRAPS on my dev laptop, FSX sliders and fsx.cfg tweaks as per the YMML User Manual. Laptop Specs: Dell XPS M7130, Core2Extreme 2.8Gz (OC'd to 2.99Ghz), Vista XP-SP3, 4GB RAM (3.18GB usable), dedicated 7,200RPM 200GB Seagate HD, 8800GTXm 512MB, Dell OEM NVidia Drivers 167.57 (very old ) You can see from my specs that my laptop is only about 80% as powerful as your PC, probably even less. No black squares, no blurries, no pop-ups, and smooth enough to enjoy flights in any aircraft. I've done approaches in B737's, 747's and everything else on the FSX menu, everything works fine. Even the Nemeth EC135 which is a complex helo - no issues at all. I think one of the things you need to invest in is another 2GB of RAM, about $
