What have I done?

If I turn FTX off on the desk top and start FS normally, while FS is starting the scenery library box appears to show the scenery library is making the necessary adjustments, as it does, if you have had FTX off,  why’ll  perversely in FS, and restart it again, the scenery library box appears to show the scenery library is making the necessary adjustments.

Well this has stopped happening, weather on or off the scenery library box does not appear to show weather the scenery is being loaded or unloaded.

When you look at the scenery, with it turned off it is still loaded in FS expected  roads and the grassy area’s around the runways.

With it turned on every thing is normal.

The only way to turn it of completely, is to turn it off on the desk top, then start FS go to the scenery library un tick the boxes  and then let the scenery library make it’s adjustments, I am then I’m back to the default FS scenery.

The only reasons I’ll turn it off, is if I am adding something to FS as recommended, I noted it not turning off when I went to add the new Oz freeware.

Why has FTX mode no / off stopped working? :'(

Did take some pic’s, let me know if required.

Hope you can help.

Thanks Goober

If I read you correctly, Goober, you are saying that every time you either turn FTX mode on or off the scenery file should rebuild. This is not so, unless you have made amendments to any scenery file. The FTX mode does not remove or replace any entries in the scenery library.

Thats normal, the FTX Mode switcher only removes/replaces those files required so the FTX specific features such as autogen and other changes that can interfere with other scenery out side of the FTX regions.

Things like roads etc will remain as they are just scenery files and the only way to go back to true default is by turning off the scenery library entries.

So you are correct in turning FTX mode off before adding new things. But it does not revert the whole FTX package back to default only the various config files etc.

Thanks for the replies.  Well done for trying to decipher the first post- I wrote it and even I had trouble understanding it when I read it today.  Too much work & not enough sleep!!  Hope the following clarifies things. ;D

Ok if I understand everyone correctly:

#1

If I turn off FTX mode and than start FS I will not see the default FS scenery,  I will still see some scenery of FTX even though it is turned off on the desk top.

#2

If I turn off FTX mode and then start FS, I should not be having an info box appear to tell me the scenery is rebuilding.  The info box used to appear, but no longer does- is that OK? (this is right at the start when FS is loading, I’m not talking about after you have picked your plane & airport and you’re waiting for that to load.)

Here are some shots.  The first 2 are FTX turned off, the scenery is still there, except around the runway is different and roads are gone as well.

This is FTX on- as you can see everything is there.

And this is with FTX off on the desk top and I have unchecked everything in the scenery library as well.  Default FS

So is this all normal, and I have been mistaken in thinking that turning FTX mode off should return me back to default FS scenery?

Thanks everyone Goober

Hi Goober,

So is this all normal, and I have been mistaken in thinking that turning FTX mode off should return me back to default FS scenery?

The reason there is an external FTX mode switcher is because FTX changes some of the default files that influence scenery outside the FTX coverage areas. Those are primarily autogen definitions and textures but also files that influence texture types on steeper slopes etc. And those are the files that FTX mode OFF reverts back to the backup/original copy it stores in \ORBX\Scripts\Backup. The FTX scenery entries remain active in your scenery library menu. Only if you also uncheck those will you have the default state outside and inside the FTX coverage areas.

I recently posted some comparison pictures of the possible combinations of FTX mode switcher and scenery library entries in this thread: http://orbxsystems.com/forums/index.php?topic=3878.0 Obviously, only FTX mode ON plus active scenery library entries will show landscape and scenery the way we intended it.

Cheers, Holger

Yes I do feel a bit of a goose.  You know, I haven’t gone to look at the default FS scenery since I first installed AU Blue, and with great scenery like this why would you.  But for various reasons, I wanted to see some things in the default FS for comparison.  I thought that to do that, all I had to do was turn FTX mode off.  An on/off button- what a good idea I thought- silly me. Anyway, thanks everyone for the great help.
