Mesh for P3DV5 development

In the past Orbx used Pilots 2010 mesh as the standard for development. For P3DV5 will Orbx continue to use this mesh or will another mesh become the standard? This would be useful information as I set up P3DV5.

Thanks,

Greg

Hi there,

actually, PILOTS 2010 mesh was only used as "a standard" for Global Vector's altitude adjustments to airports as well as its lake elevations. For all other products we either include our own terrain mesh files or test with a variety of add-ons.

As mentioned in our sticky post regarding Orbx and v5 -- https://orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/190990-Orbx-and-prepar3d-v5/-- we don't have plans to port Global Vector to v5 and thus you can install any third-party mesh of your choosing (or none).

Keep in mind that the general behavior of v5 in regards to terrain mesh hasn't changed meaning that higher compiled resolutions will still automatically override mesh files of lower resolution, regardless of scenery library priority.

Also, our products are developed and tested with a mesh resolution slider setting of 5m. Even if you install mesh of higher source resolution you should retain that setting because the add-on will still display the (presumably) higher accuracy of the source. Using 2m or even 1m for mesh resolution often causes display issues at airports or near water bodies and can also increase the visual "morphing" of the terrain when flying across mountainous areas.

Cheers, Holger
