maxhades
I fly dx9 and never seen this on orbx scenerys, and i have a lot nor other addons. I was testing steves dx10 long time ago. Since than i fly always dx9. Could something be corrupted in one of the shadow folders or missed by default?
Nick Cooper
Hello, As I never use the Direct X 9 setting in FSX, I have never seen this. I do see it now that I have tried it, as you say, only when the aircraft landing lights shine on the runway light. Also, now that I look more closely, the effect is there in Direct X 10. Thanks for reporting it and we will see if Jarrad can offer any advice.

Jarrad Marshall
Hi guys, You are indeed correct, this is a limitation of the older sim. There is a "soft" (ambient occlusion) shadow under the light model, the square you see is the polygon outline - normally it should be invisible as part of the material settings. The good news is that it *only* affects default-style aircraft landing lights in FSX - modern landing light styles (including in almost all aircraft addons post-2009) are not affected. Default aircraft lights in P3D v3/v4 are not affected. So basically, if you fly an aircraft in FSX that isn't the default aircraft, it is most likely you won't have this problem. Cheers, Jarrad
maxhades
You right! But for example the Realair Duke has the option to switch default or 3D on/off. I fly this aircraft with default because the 3D light make some troubles with freezing panel knobs and gauges! Pmdg...no problem!
