Wolter van der Spoel
Hi glad62, I can relate that you are keen on getting a quick answer to your question and we are more than happy to oblige, but we need a little bit more data to be able to give you the correct answer, so therfore please provide us with requested data, thank you in advance What OS are we talking ? XP or Vista What processor are you running? How much RAM ? The 8800GT card wich one ? 256, 512, 640 ? Why do you turn AA off in fsX? Did you assign the MS Flight Simulator X profile with the nVidia Control panel ? Did you set your AF to x8s or higher ?
glad62
On ya U_F Runnibg XP Home Run Adaware before simming (this stuff can really drag the chain) Reboot before simming (clean up my ram) E6750 o/c'd to 3.1 ish 2 gig total ram usually start with 1.6 ish free 8800 gt 512 fs9 worked best for me with aa & af enabled at the card and... off in the sim conversely fsx sp1 worked better the other way around. sp2 has not impressed me as I have tended to uninstal it whenever I felt moved to give it another try. Now back in SP2 because you guys reackon its the go with FTX but again I'm having doubts. (off at the card - on at the sim) Then again you may come up with the 'magic bullet'? My Control Panel has only a MS train sim profile... is the profile a must?
Ed Correia
Glad62 I think i had the same problem as you. the light poles were "bright' and shimmered and was quite distracting. Fixed it with some playing around with nhancer. I created a custom profile for FSX after deleting the predefined profile that was in nhancer (nvidia's profile) and making these my settings: AA combined 8xS, AF 16x and turning off AA in the sim and setting the filtering to anisotropic. Don't know if the AA settings will apply in your case as my card is only the 7600GT. Running SP2 as well. Cheers, Ed Order no 3179
John Venema
Ed's advice above is sound - that's exactly how I run my setup. Shimmering is 100% caused by a bad AA/AF combo and FSX not getting the effect of that combo correctly from the driver. I would strongly recommend getting nhancer (http://www.nhancer.com) and forcing the AA/AF setting on FSX and then inside the sim only checking Antistropic for the filtering with AA enabled. glad62
Thanks guys, using the card to force af and aa has done the job.
