birdguy
Almost all the national codes are pretty clear. Belguim-BEL. Cayman Islands-CYM. United Kingdom-GBR. China-CHN. Malaysia-MYS. Italy-ITA. And so on. They're quite self evident. But there is one that has me confused. Why is Switzerland coded CHE? Noel
jabble
I reckon it's for Confederation of the Helvetians, or something similar. The Helvetians were the ancestors of the Swiss, back when they were a Celtic tribe, and it's an identity that helped unite the more modern multi-lingual nation.
