Need for video recording software advice

Recommended Posts

I want to make a video of a flight in my P3D v3.1 PMDG 777-300ER.

As a complete novice re video recording, I am unsure how to record the video. I have Windows Movie Maker currently which seems easy to use, but recording video for it appears to be a dark art.

I have tried SRecorder but am getting very poor results, jerky video and almost non-existent voice reproduction.

Do you have any suggestions about a simple recording software I should use?

Do you think that my Intel Core i7-2600k @ 3.40 GHz, windows 10-64bit PC is up to producing a smooth video replay?

Any hints will be much appreciated.

I never got ShadowPlay to work. No record icon. Nothing. I think it might have to do with my Vsync settings in Nvidia as I have them set to run mis-matched monitors. My sim runs great so I'm not going to start making changes. I've seen a freeware program called Bandicam mentioned in other forums, for what it's worth. I DL'ded it but haven't tried it.

You can try the free version of FRAPS, it records about 30 seconds only, if it works then upgrade to the payware version.

Very easy and works fine.

Don't know if it works on Window 10 though.

As you, I spend few weeks fighting with the program. One of stupid trick I forget to set is to configure Air Play to record the desktop. Since then I personnally think ShadowPlay is less fps consuming than Fraps.

Didn't work for me either. But then somehow an update changed the Thing. So now it works fine´.

Only when I open the recording in Winows Media Player the Resolution becomes bad. Any advice on that?

Greetings!

"The resolution becomes bad" ? Does-it mean that the recorded video file is low resolution ? Not enough quality for you ?

Quality of recorded video is tunable within ShadowPlay. It's up to you to find the right setting to balance CPU/GPU consuming during the record and the quality of the output video. It's really depending on your setup.

Sorry sorry! I meant Windows Movie Maker. Recording and playing works perfect. However,  editing in Movie Maker produces a low Resolution film.

No worries ;-) I'm not Windows Movie Maker specialist, but as with any other video editing software, during the rendering/export phase, you should pay attention of the format/quality. From standard (low), to DVD, to HD, to 4K... etc.... The higher (HD-whatever) you choose, the bigger is the output file (and longuer to upload to Youtube).

Great! I'll try again the next time I have a recording. Thanks Vincent.

My GPU is fairly old and is NVIDIA GeForce GTX 590. GeForce Experience indicates that my GPU may not be sufficient.

Thanks for your inputs,

Hi Richard, we have a similar rig and  the same GPU, the 590 was a beast at that time and it's still better then a lot of new one.

I highly suggest Bandicam for recording, I also have FRAP but this one is harder on FPS, Bandicam as way more option as to recording resolution and very easy to sue: http://www.bandicam.com/

Movie Maker is fun and simple... and FREE. Perfect to began with.

I don't have P3D so make sure it work with it (I'm pretty sure it does). Bandicam eat maybe 2-5 FPS at most, sometime none.

Also, try to overclock (OC) your 2600K, it's pretty easy to do so with those. Mine is very stable at 4.4ghz

After, if you like movie editing, I suggest Cyberlink Power Director. I think they are now at 14. Pretty cheap and powerful, there is alos an easy mode.

Voila, Ben
