  1. I tried removing the XML and index files but, sadly, no go. BTW - I'm using the Microsoft variant, which encrypts the install folder - so copying/moving files from there is a bit of a nightmare. However - simple deletion works. What the system won't allow (quite understandably) is for me to obtain copies of these textures from someone else.

My next idea is to go to Content Manager and delete CORE CONTENT/Mandatory Packages and hope that I could then re-download them. Seems risky to me though.

  2. Thanks @Smudger and @Gulfstreamtwo ... it does look like I'm not the only one with this kind of issue.

I reinstalled ALL of my Orbx scenery and re-ran MSFS with a totally clean Community folder (with only EGLC active) and still got the problem. So ... it looks like I have a corrupt MSFS install :(

The question is - do I need to do a complete, fresh reinstall - or whether the usual Windows Repair would do the job. Both  options fill me with dread and I'm wondering that maybe I do like pink after all LOL!

  3. Many thanks, Nick. This is becoming a real mystery!!! I've tried with a completely empty Community folder - and with all caches cleared - and still get it.

The same texture (at least I think it's the same one) crops up in a couple of freeware airports (that's how I could find the texture name). Maybe there's some behind-the-scenes indexing gone awry - or some ID numbers got mixed up ... dunno!

I'll try a fresh install of EGLC and see if it goes away. I'm not too bothered about freeware airports showing them (you get what you pay for, as it were) but I hate my precious Orbx scenery being less than perfect!!!

That's a nice pic, BTW - even though it's only a reference shot!!

    Hello Empire,

I fell into the same trap as you have.

Instead of setting the sharpening in the Global setting, use the Program Settings tab

and set the sharpening for the exe file in question, fsx.exe, Prepar3D.exe, X-Plane.exe

    and so on.

Then the sharpening will be applied to the game only and leave the rest of your

    software as it was.

As ever, Nick has beaten me to it! Just to confirm that his suggestion works perfectly :)

  5. Wow! As ever, your "guides" are comprehensive yet easy to understand. I suggest the mods "pin" this one in particular.

I've been using sharpening quite successfully for a while now, but it's great to be able to understand what's going on "under the hood". Many thanks for your effort (it must have taken a while!)!! :)

  6. The weird thing is that the PBR value needs to be a full 3.0. Anything below that doesn't do it. However - I'm finding some of my VCs (maybe the ones that use PBR the most) are looking distinctly weird. I need to investigate that a bit more, as I'm messing with a new xVision preset at the same time - and that could also be the culprit.

Funnily enough, I rarely ever saw those ugly trees. Maybe I just haven't been around at that time of day - or just wasn't flying towards the sun.

I take issue with this - and would like to refer people back to Nick's original post, which I understand to mean 100% working - without kludges or workarounds.

For instance - the A2A B-17 has *many* issues. Lots of things do NOT work (and neither do a lot of the Accusim-specific functions).

A more reasonable description would be the it "flies" ... but "works" ... I don't think so. Put it like this - would A2A themselves claim that the B-17 "works" in P3Dv4? I'll bet you they wouldn't.

  8. Drat! I could have sworn it was working just the other day!

    How about: http://www.ngohq.com/?page=Files&go=giveme&dwn_id=1651

    or ... http://filehippo.com/download_ati_catalyst_xp_64/13063/

    Any use?

UPDATE: I found the ATI drivers in my old DX10 Fixer archive. Try the link again: http://www.nzfsim.org/index.php?dsp=downloads&f_sort=fixer

    - and see if either of them are what you need.
