  1. With the improvements in scenery in P3D v5.3 I have already determined that there is no great advantage to having Ultimate Terrain X installed and have uninstalled it.

I want to compare FTX Global textures with the P3Dv5.3 defaults so I took several screenshots of the overhead map with it enabled. I then used Orbx Central to uninstall FTX Global for P3Dv5.

I then reloaded P3D and positioned at the same airport. There is no difference in the overhead map view. Why? Looking at a backup I had 16285 files in scenery\world\texture. I now have 16256. I find it hard to accept 29 files comprise the FTX Global install. There are still 120 files in that folder starting with FTXG.

Can anyone explain how I can solve this problem please?

I have not done any special tests, but in areas where I might get frame rates in the high 40s I am easily getting 60 fps.

Here’s how I did my test. Slewed the aircraft up to 500ft above Terminal 5 at SimWings Heathrow facing east with the whole airport ahead of me and London in the distance. That is a severe test.

Slowly rotated the aircraft laterally through 360° twice. Then stopped the rotation where it started and exited P3D. Opened the FSUIPC log and read the average fps calculated throughout the test.

Did the test three times and the differences were +/- 1fps. That guarantees accuracy.

I wanted to know precisely how much faster or slower v5.3 was. That test told me. Knowing where you tested and with which aircraft would help. A 50% improvement seems unusually high.

  3. Before I updated to v5.3 I ran several performance tests at SimWings Heathrow which is a very hard test.

With v5.2HF1 the average over 3 tests for the PMDG737NGXu was 53.3. VSync = Off and no Ai.

With v5.3 installed I ran the same tests and this time the average was 64.7. A 27% increase. Is that what others are seeing? I should add that I took the average fps from my fsuipc log so I know it's accurate.

The only thing I haven't done is Verify my Orbx software - FTX Global, AUS v2 and 3 Orbx airports - Canberra, Melbourne and Brisbane. I've read some reports that doing this does impact on performance.

I'd appreciate comments on how I should proceed.

  4. I’ve finally identified and resolved this DXGI_DEVICE_HUNG error.

I was never aware of DirectX Shader files. Opening Settings in Windows 10 and selecting the Storage option gives the user the option of deleting many temporary files. These include DirectX Shader files.

Having cleared them I’ve not had the DXGI error in 6 flights. But I have also set my graphics card to Prefer Maximum Performance in the NCP and I have also set TDRDelay=0 in the Registry which turns off the DXGI message.

But I suspect it’s clearing the DirectX Shaders that has fixed it.

Flight sims have always been and will always require users to tailor the options within the sim to suit their own computers, and software.  The PMDG aircraft are well known resource hogs and do require lower scenery settings, however which settings need to be toned down cannot be predicted given the vast array of scenery and other options that can affect it.

    John,

You're coming across as very defensive. Yes, settings need to be tweaked for the airport in question but given YBBN has such a huge impact on graphical performance with one critical setting I would have expected some mention of it. Strange how at all my other airports I don't have that problem.

Anyway, I was just trying to be helpful.

  6. Hi Nick,

I do have AUS v2 installed. Strange. I had to wait a while until the v5 installer was available but it's definitely installed and active. See attached screnshot.

The 1080Ti is hardly cutting edge these days. Surely if guidelines are given for decent performance it should include an option that kills performance. I disabled the Dynamic 3D AutoGen setting but it made no difference. In comparison the Dynamic Lighting change from Medium to High had a seismic impact.

That option really does need to be included especially for PMDG aircraft. My others had no problem with the HIgh setting.

  7. I'm tearing my hair out with the combination of the PMDG737NGXu and Orbx YBBN.

With 30Hz set and VSync on fps in the sim should be limited to 30. But positioned at 19L C&D Shift+Z shows 22fps. If I turn off VSync it shows 34fps. But if I go into slew mode and move around the micro-stutters are very obvious and it's not smooth at all.

If I switch to a Carenado PC12 everything is ultra-smooth at 30Hz (30fps maintained throughout).

This is with EA/HDR both OFF. I cannot understand why the PMDG737 has such a massive hit at this airport.

In the YBBN Configure screen there's no option for having AUS v2 installed which means the BGLs for YBBN in that package remain active. I've renamed them but really the installer should have that option.

LATER: I've just discovered what is killing performance with the combination of the PMDG737NGXu and YBBN. Dynamic Reflections! Anything higher than Medium kills performance. There is no mention of this in the user guide. There needs to be please. The 1080Ti is still in widespread use so I imagine many others might be affected by this.

  8. I've just flown the same route with the Xtreme Prototypes Lear 25. Cruise at FL430, Mach 0.82. I used today's weather, not yesterday's but the weather being a factor would be odd. VRAM used ranged from 7.1Gb at YBBN to 5.7 enroute and 6.8 at FlyTampa YSSY. Well under the 11Gb of the 1080Ti.

The flight was fine. I'll need to refly it with the PMDG 737-900 again. If it results in a DXGI problem then it would clearly point to the PMDG but searching through their forums reveals very little DXGI discussion. Weird.

Surely, trying the flight with a different aircraft other than PMDG can't be that difficult?

If I try a different aircraft and still get the same crash that points to the scenery. What I want to establish is whether the sim crashes at the same point a second time with the same aircraft.

I need to monitor VRAM usage and report the wording of the DXGI message since there are several different ones. Hard to see how an 11Gb graphics card could run out of memory.

  10. @Doug Sawatzky, thanks for the links but it seems a huge coincidence it’s only happened when flying over Australia which has Orbx addons. I’m prepared to accept FTX Global is probably okay as it’s a global product.

I need to fly this route again and monitor VRAM. I’ve had this error before and it was related to the RTSS display and caused a crash when changing vehicles. Once I stopped using RTSS the problem never appeared until yesterday. Since then I’ve flown dozens of flights.

But on this flight in the PMDG 737-900NGXu I find it difficult to understand why it only happens over Australia. With 11Gb of VRAM it’s inconceivable VRAM was exhausted when I’m 60 miles north of Sydney over pretty scarce scenery.

  11. P3Dv5.2HF1. Scenery installed - FTX Global, AUS v2, YBBN v2, Fly Tampa YSSY.

On a flight today from Brisbane to Sydney P3D stopped with the DXGI message. I didn’t take note of the message details - sorry. I was descending to FL120 around 55nm out from YSSY.

I’ve been flying P3Dv5 over Europe and North America without this problem so I’m concerned why it’s happening over AUS scenery.

I’ve verified FTX Global and AUS v2 files. Is there anything else I can do? Is this a known problem with scenery in this part of the world?

    Hello,

can you show me where you are missing jetways please, I am seeing them in all the places in the images that I posted.

This is what the product information states.

I am sure that you will know what that means.

Hi Nick. I'll check and report back over the weekend. I haven't a clue what "hero assets" means. Guess I'm getting old.

  13. P3D v5.2HF1. I previously owned v1 of this airport and it was never one of my favourites visually. Yesterday I decided to buy v2 in the hope it would look a lot better.

Sadly it still looks pretty bland and this screenshot shows why. Is that how the real airport looks? If it does then I can't really complain.

What's the purpose of those grey jetway-looking objects? Do pax walk down them to the aircraft? And the terminal buildings look very ordinary too. Not really of the standard I would expect of Orbx.

Where can I see the PBR effects?

  14. Hi Marcus,

Wow! I'm surprised to see you advise that. You have a powerful system but don't say what resolution you run at. 1920*1080? If so then you cannot replicate the problem.

Have you any idea what is causing it? Daytime and Dynamic Lighting puts a huge amount of work on the GPU which it can't cope with. Turn it off and everything is wonderful both airborne and on the ground.

  15. Nick, that was when I had no idea what the problem was and we tried different things like removing files and switching options off. Nothing was definitive hence why I gave up with that topic. Despite Marcus's help the problem remained.

But on this one I have found the cause. Only one setting was changed to resolve the problem. It doesn't get any clearer than that. Where is @Marcus Nyberg? He is the developer isn't he?

  16. Nick,

I wouldn’t expect anyone to buy a UHD monitor to test something. I’m surprised no one running UHD who has Bilbao hasn’t commented on this post. Surely I can’t be the only person.

Whilst you say you’re not sure DL in 4K is the problem I am 100% sure it is simply because that is the only change I made to prove my findings.

It would be disappointing not to hear back from the developer since he knows the most about how this airport was designed. I would ask that you bring this to his attention please.
