Milamber
Hmm, thanks for the H/U I can download the installer, but this fails [3 times] on getting the updates. The latest redist is still August 2008, will try again tomorrow. Cheers now, Maurice.

Maurice_King
Just a reminder to NOT install the plug-in for validation but rather run the little application to get your validation key from your OS .
yallu
Use the offline installation. Google for "directx november 2008".

skypilot
Just a reminder to NOT install the plug-in for validation but rather run the little application to get your validation key from your OS . What is the difference? I would have thought one validation method is the same as the other just one is seamless/automatic the other is a manual step? skypilot
I have also found you can update DX with a previously downloaded and validated, DXWEBSETUP.EXE - it does not ask for validation and seems to do the update.
drwalker
Wolter Is there any improvement in performance with the update?
Maurice_King
What the difference NO "F" ing way are they the same, The WGA (Windows Genuine Advantage ) is at the least a pain at its worse it can screw your system. Get the Validation tool only, it will verify your OS is Legit ( returning the PC's control to you the user) and give you a code that you save in a text file to be used as and when needed, The WGA Plugin WILL cause many problems. I have rectified far to many PC for clients as a result of these Validation Plugin. Just another reason I NEVER turn Auto Update on
aeugli
May be a silly question, but which one do I need "DX9c latest updater" or "DX9c latest full package" or both and what´s the difference? I beg for enlightment Thanks and Cheers Rainer
Maurice_King
Better off with the full package as it will overwrite anything it needs too.
aeugli
Hallo Maurice, I´m afraid I don´t understand your answer. You mean I should not install the full package but run the "DX9c latest updater" ? thanks for your reply Cheers Rainer

NZ255
How do you install the full version? I got as far as extracting the files, is that all I need to do?
737-8FE
NZ255 extract them to a folder in a place such as your desktop. Then just run the setup file its in there. Btw guys i have a question i went Start/Run/dxdiag and its saying my direct x version is DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904), shouldnt it be 9.25.1476. Can someone check their dxdiag for me. Thanks! Maurice_King
Yet another warning people I make it a policy to NEVER extract to the desktop nor download direct to the same, this is IMHO a big no no, and potentially opens your system to attack from malicious programing, why because the Desktop is in fact a subfolder of your Documents and settings and is part of your user profile. You screw this and you could well be in for a complete reload. (so you can rebuild your Profile.) Extract to a Folder with a logical structure if you like such as D:/Downloads/System Tools/DirectX Current and drop the files in there and then run the setup.exe or installer etc.

aeugli
Hi Maurice, after extracting files (DX9c Package) in a temp folder and running the setup.exe in there, can I then delete the whole stuff/content of this temp folder or must I keep it? Cheers Rainer
John Bosch
Aeugli, You can delete it.
Maurice_King
I'd got through the folder and actually keep all the x86 and 32 Bit files (if your system is 32 Bit) basically keep the whole folder as a zip in your archive Hard Drive, you do have one don't you, much easier than having to download everything again should it be necessary. aeugli
Thanks Wirraway and Maurice for your feedback, I´ve deleted the hole stuff and I ever store the original zip-file in an archive/temp folder for further usage! Cheers Rainer
teecee
OK.. I DL the full package, and extracted it to a separate folder.. I see all the zips for the past years, but I don't see a .exe zip.. will someone take pity on an old guy and walk me thru the installation? Teecee. Wolter van der Spoel
if I'm not wrong Vista runs with DX10, but again I could be wrong, but someone with Vista installed can answer that one, I'm a little conservative I run XPpro SP3

Holy Cheese
I'm also confused on the Vista question. I downloaded the update last night, but haven't installed it yet because of my confusion. I thought that Vista runs DX10, but when I was downloading, I looked at the list of operating systems that this DX9c is compatible with, and lo and behold, it lists all the Vista versions as well. I'll hold off on installing till one of the tech gurus here can shed a little more light on this. Cheers Jack
Maurice_King
It shouldn't matter as Vista should have DX9 and DX10 compatibility I should think, since not all games/simulations are full DX10 graphics, I would expect that it would need to support both? Maurice_King
My understanding of these updates is if the system needs them it will add the appropriate bits if it doesn't it will tell you.
