Neil
The charts you need for SAK appear to be FAA Sectional Charts, Juneau, Seward, and Whitehorse. There are also IFR Enroute Low Altitude charts for Alaska. L1/L2 covers from Vancouver BC to Anchorage, and then follows the Aleutian archipeligo to Shemya. The chart has instructions on how to buy 2 copies and assemble a wall planning chart that would be about 10 feet across! Wallpaper! There are also IFR Hi Altitude charts, but I haven't seen these. On the Canadian side VFR Navigation Charts for Kitimat, Atlin, and Whitehorse, look like they cover for the US Ketchikan, Juneau and Whitehorse areas. Haven't seen the Atlin or Whitehorse charts. From here it looks like the next Orbx Alaska scenery should cover the Kodiak, Cold Bay, Dutch Harbour, and the Western Aleutians. I am going to buy and download once the "gold rush fever" subsides. paddler
Neil, I have just finished downloading and installing. I did as Jay suggested and downloaded from the cloud. Fast, no slowdown from the "gold rush" so no need to delay if that was your concern.
Neil
Thanks Rick, and actually with the multiple server available, I haven't had any dowload problems lately. Ok, I will get the credit card out and get on withit! Need to get an Alaska Airlines skin for my Captain Sim 737-200, and then away we go.
Holger Sandmann
Hi Neil, good point, thanks for the reminder. Current FAA VFR sectional maps and other charts are available for download in .tif format here: http://aeronav.faa.g...R/chartlist_tac . They almost cover the entire SAK area except for a Canadian strip east of ~W130. Of course, there's also http://skyvector.com/ for online viewing of the same and other charts. Plus, there's interesting general information for Alaska pilots here -- http://www.faa.gov/a...gion/flyalaska/ -- and specific information for the crowded Juneau airspace in this 6-MB .pdf document: http://www.faa.gov/a...JNU_LOA_R18.pdf . A similar handbook, though dated 2001, is available online at http://www.atlasaviation.com/aviationlibrary/alaskainfo/alaskainfo1.htm Cheers, Holger
Neil
Thanks Holger, so is the Anchorage to Shemya next on the list, it would be spectacular. It would also be a favourite for the tubeliner crowd (I am a member).
