ACTIVE FTX Wales texture issue

Wondering if you can help me.

I'm having an issue with the Wales texture tiles. They look very blurry when I fly over them.

If I start at an airport, Cardiff for example, the textures in the surounding fields and towns are fine. Perfect crisp textures.

It's only once I fly away from the Airport that the textures become blurry. Like they are not updating fast enough.

Now I realise that this can be quite normal in FSX, and admittadly I am flying the Lotus L-39. So I can understand some texture refresh issues.

But not to this extent. I have all FTX regions released so far and flying the L-39 around England I have no such problem. Textures load quickly. Only seems to be an issue with Wales.

I've tried changing my LOD_RADIUS from 4.5 up to 9 and it makes no difference, still very blurry. I even tried disabling autogen completly, but still, the same thing happens.

Anyway. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue? and if they have managed to overcome it. Any tips would be very much appreciated.

Hi,

Can you post some screenshots of what you are seeing also post your settings and pc spec.

Have you tried in a default aircraft to see if it makes a difference?

backup your fsX.cfg and then delete it from C:\Users\XXXXXXX\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX

close and let fsX rebuild a new cfg file

also noted that you have two different videocards listed it's either the one or the other and they have to be identical

Just tried it, but exactly the same thing is happend when flying out of Cardiff and heading North.

Tried a flight out of FTX southampton and headed North with no problem at all. Textures updated with no noticable blurries.

This is so wierd. Is there some kind of significant difference between EU England and EU Wales textures?

I shall keep trying things.

I am experiencing the same issues as the Poster on a very similar system. Autogen loads fine but ground textures are blurry as soon as I leave EGFF - even in a Cessna C172. When pausing it can take 1 minute before ground textures sharpen up.

As I see that it takes 30 secs or so then I'd strongly suggest to Hit => Crtl+Alt+Del and tell me how many processes you have running there as I suspect that the CPU is suffering from exaustion when it takes that long and again I have to ask what Hardware and OS are you using

Okay, you were right Wolter. Cores 3 & 4 are maxed everywhere I fly in FTX Wales.

I tried using game booster which dropped me down to 56 processes running while flying around Wales. Sadly the blurries still appear.

I noticed while flying out of Southampton England. Cores 3 & 4 were not maxed, but would occasionally spike to 100%.

I don't know why flying out of Swansea is so much more taxing on my CPU.

the advice I can give you is have a look here about disabling not needed processes on your system => http://www.blackviper.com really worthwhile to have a read there and adapt your setup

as for the blurries. as stated before it has to do with loading times, hence something is using up resources that affect that, it could be almost anything, but important is to make sure that your Virusscanner proggy doesn't scan fsX continiusly that also could help

Actually guys I need to jump in here. The other evening I experienced exactly the same issue about 10 miles north of Cardiff. Now I had been changing a few things in my cfg. BUT, there were no other problems anywhere else until I arrived at this point north of Cardiff. I have not since revisited the area, but I will do so soon now I have read this post.

Well, for info, I've just had a quick spin north of Cardiff and although textures were quite slow to load, due to the excessive autogen in the area, I did not experience the kind of blurries that the OP is reporting, or in fact what I had experienced myself the other day.

I'm having an issue with the Wales texture tiles. They look very blurry when I fly over them.

I had the same effect and two of my cores were running with 100% when flying north of Cardiff. I found out that my AffinityMask was wrong or at least not optimal and it seems that your FSX.cfg is not optimal either.

Perhaps you want to set it to 252 (using an i7 CPU), i.e. it should look in this way:

I have HT disabled on my CPU so I'm not sure that AffinityMask setting will work. Something I need to read up on.

The reason I don't have HT enabled is that I was lead to believe that FSX got little benifit from it, and having it on generates allot more heat and requires considerably more Vcore voltage on your CPU when you are overclocking.

Also, I already have exempted my Virus scanner from scanning my FSX directory.

After much playing around, I have solved my blurry texture issue (sort of)

I decided to change my season to Summer (start of July) and guess what. No more blurries and reduced CPU load.

I am finally enjoying the beautiful Welsh scenery and blasting through the mountains in my L-39.

So it seems there are certain times of the year that put increased load on my CPU. Any idea why this might be?

I noticed I seem to have a mixed group of Summer and winter textures in March. Maybe this has something to do with it.

Haven't tried any other seasons yet.

Hi, I installed Wales yesterday and I too have the same issues flying north of Cardiff blurries and slow to update, noticeably more blurry looking from the side window then out of the front. I reset to NZ South and Milford Sound and the textures using the same aircraft and settings where much crisper and detailed. I have found PNW to be much crisper then Both England and Wales as is NZ.

Win 7 64, on MacPro 2x Zeon CPU = 8cores run in boot amp. ATI 5770 GPU Mac vers, 10gb ddr2 mem.

Windows and FSX both optimised as per Nick Needham.

Sorry for late reply capt Biscuit, not changed seasons yet but I went into FTX Aero and set all the textures to my system defaults. The theory being that I am useing REX textures and I thought the two might be competing there was a marked improvement. I am in the middle of a defrag right now I'll try the seasons when it's completed. I agree with your thought process the UK is more dull in winter then both NZ and PNW for some reason.

I'll report back here, will be tomorrow or Thursday though.

Ok, I've changed to July 17th with fair weather. The textures are a bit greener from real time but not by a great deal. Still more blurred looking through side window then out front. Looking through the side window then pausing the sim it takes 10 - 15 seconds to crisp up. My FSX display settings are at the FTX reccomended with autogen at high,water at the next to highest setting. Weather set to fair I should have said. I though a slight improvement from real time but not enough to make me want to fly outside of real time. The biggest improvement I had was with the aero texture reset as in my other post.

I then moved my autogen back to normal and the water to 2xlow.my frame rates doubled instantly but no noticeable redraw improvement still ok out front but blurry at the side although nowhere near as bad as before the Aero reset.

Back to real time now with opusfsx injecting my real world weather. No noticeable drop in quality although I now have the cloud effect obscuring the ground.

All test carried out with the default Cessna at an initial altitude of 2000' climbing to 4000' when overflying the Brecon Beacons.
