Gurdy
Better than the poor bastard that fell out of the sky on his first solo at Moorrabbin. May his soul rest in peace.

Tim Harris
yes always sad when a pilot dies on his first solo midair collision with 2 planes, the other plane made a safe landing at moorrabbin
grumman
http://www.news.com.au/perthnow/story/0,21598,24250861-948,00.html Well handled. An interesting exercise to try in FSX is to simulate what happened here. The address where the aircraft came to rest is given in the article so it's easy to look it up on Google maps and guess roughly where the engine failure occurred. Try shutting down the engine in FSX at about 1000ft and see how you go getting it down in one piece (with full crash realism on). Admittedly the FSX flight model is lacking a bit of realism in the landing phase (too easy to pull off a "greaser") but it's still a useful application of the sim. Another is the "unmakeable 180 turn" after an engine failure on climbout. And my hat is off to anyone who can pull off a deadstick landing at Aireys Inlet near Avalon (Vic), a 300m strip with a dogleg at one end. It's tricky enough getting in with a powered approach in a 172 (needs the Ozx freeware airports installed). Greg
