What are your favorite REX sunsets, sunrises, and daytimes?

Do you have a favorite REX sunset or sunrise? Which ones do you find to be the most realistic?

I'd like to see if there is any common agreement as to what the most realistic REX skies are.

I'm looking for skies that aren't 'thick with color' if that makes any sense.

I'm sure everyone has their favorite when it comes to this subject.. I'd just try playing around with a few different settings and see which ones really seem to "pop" for your experience. I really doubt that you'll find any "common agreement" with this lol.

Hi Dave, I know exactly what you mean. Some, well IMO most of the skies and sunsets are just over the top and completely unrealistic. What I did was put an afternoon to one side and experiment with a lot of combinations until I can up with just a couple of themes that I like.

Thanks Howard. I'll keep looking. I just installed 'hawaii'. I fly with it a bit and see.

Hi sightseer,

I for myself had quite the same problem with those dawn/dusk sky colours from REX. They look like paintings. I searched quite along time till I found some nice freeware and one payware package that worked well for me.

Freeware

"hdeskytexturesfsx.zip" not bad for a freeware

"sky colors fsx.zip" I really like the dawn set of this freeware package from http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PNNZ9ZW9

German site where you can see the results for "sky colors fsx.zip"

Payware

"SL - REAL SKY PRO EDITION" from http://secure.simmarket.com/sl-real-sky-pro-edition-%28de_2436%29.phtml

I bought this a while ago and I am very pleased with it in comparison to the REX textures

No overexagerated colours, very realistic. It might be a little expensive but for me it was absolutely worth it.

Cheers

HI -

Thanks for th eheadsup on the freeware but Im not likely to pay much for more skies because I can make my own. But I already own REX so I started this topic just to start conservation really.

But FSX doesn't give many options for sky colors. Nearly every thing you add creates something you dont want. For example, the only way to get a dark blue haze is to set the 2nd pixel row from the bottom to dark blue but this also darkens the ground. I've found that keeping the 3rd pixel row bright and the 2nd pixel row partially dark will help give the illusion of shadow while not stealing the daylight out of the texture. It looks more real to me. I can't tell that the first pixel row does anything at all.

as for sunsets and sunrises -- they're supposed to be colorful. and again - FSX doesnt give alot of leeway here. You can't have dark shadow and bright high clouds becasue the 2nd pixel row controls so much.
