Re-install Woes

Recommended Posts

As is sometimes the case in this hobby, all was well until suddenly it wasn't. P3dD reported it could not load because of a corrupted scenery.cfg file; that I needed to abort and re-install. So, I un-installed/re-installed P3d.

My Orbx Library was in the Main Library, and is therefore is unmolested. Central shows my Orbx files still installed, but the files do not appear in my scenery.cfg, and they are grayed-out in the P3D scenery library. So, everything appears to be there, just not connected.

In Central, I tried re-synching the simulator, as suggested in Nick's May 2020 post, but no luck.

Not sure where to o from here. Should I un-install all Orbx and re-install?

Hi

This is normal when the products are installed to an external library, you will find them in the P3D Add-ons list, and you should also see them working in your simulator if they are checked as activated in the P3D Add-ons list.

Thank you, Doug, for the near-instant reply!  :)

Yes; my Add-on list shows my Orbx P3D library contents, and they are indeed checked. Unfortunately, the scenery does not load.

Here's a shot taken Northbound just after taking-off from 34R at Seattle Intl (KSEA). As you see, it is very clearly not the gorgeous Orbx Pacific Northwest scenery.

I'm thinking I need to un-install and re-install all my Orbx (dread), but as a test, I tried doing that with a couple of small airports, and they didn't load.

Any suggestions before I take the plunge?

Hi

Your screenshot is not helpful because it mostly shows the sky and the inside of the aircraft.

So,

Please post a copy of your “scenery.cfg” file and the “add-ons.cfg” and the “scenery_add-ons.xml” file found at C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5.

Please note: Do not open the files and copy and paste the contents, just attach the files.

Thanks, no worries :)

I see you have everything installed to C:\Users\your name\Orbx Library\p3dv5, this commonly causes problems with Windows allowing access to the files.

I would create a new folder that is not inside the operating system such as C:\Orbx Library, using the below method from the user guide.

For step #10, cut and paste the files from Orbx Library\p3dv5 to the new folder, do not include the C:\Users\your name\.

Moving a library to another location

Moving a library is painless with Central and can be achieved in a few steps only:

  1. Go to Settings > Libraries.

  2. Note the directory of the library you’d like to move.

  3. Remove/Delete the library that you would like to move (remember: this doesn’t delete the actual files).

  4. Close Central by right-clicking on the tray and selecting “quit”.

  5. Create a new and empty directory in the new location

  6. Start Central again

  7. Open Settings, and then the Libraries page

  8. Press ‘Create New Library’

  9. Select the new library location, give it a name and then press ‘Save’.

  10. Move the files from your original library into the new location. DO NOT amend the file structure. This step may take a while depending on your disk speed.

Then I would do a PC restart.

Then when you restart the sim, it may ask you to enable the addons again.

Then do a sync simulator.

Well, Doug, I did as above. The transfer of files went fairly quickly and smoothly. But in Settings>Libraries, the Orbx Library "size" column has one of those "busy" circles that continuously  to go round in circles, as if its processing. Its been doing it for hours.

I've exited Central, but when I return, same ting. I've even un-installed and re-installed Central, but same thing.

The new folder I created and transferred the files to is C:/Orbx Library. I've attached add-ons config, because at the bottom, under [DiscoveryPath.1], because although the paths for P3d sceneery appea to be correct, it has an entry to the old C:/users location for X-Plane. The correct for my Orbx X-Plane files are in C:/OrbxLibrary/xp11. Should I change it? Maybe that's what is confusing it?

I wanted to check with you, first.

Your add-ons.cfg file path looks fine.

Have you run the simulator since the move? If not, please do.

I don't think the C:/OrbxLibrary/xp11 should be confusing for Orbx Central, but I could be wrong, so maybe run the simulator first and see what happens.

But this entry C:\Users\your name\Orbx XP Library\p3dv5 you mention does look confusing and I would delete it.

Okay; I deleted that line, and then ran the sim. Still not picking-up Orbx. The top photo is looking at Boeing Field; the second looking at Seattle downtown. Terrible screenshots, but definitely not Orbx.

If it helps diagnostically, in Orbx Central > Libraries, under "Size" one of those "busy" icons just spins around, like its trying to do something. If I exit and return, same thing. Since yesterday.

I was thinking of un-installing my Orbx scenery using Central, then re-installing, but when I tested doing that with a small airport, no help.

I have no clue what to try. Maybe if I un-installed the scenery, as swell as Central, then cleaned the registry, re-install? Whaddya think?

Any chance you could guide me thru cleaning the registry entries for Central?

Interesting, that I installed another airport this morning, and it installed fine into  the  C:/Orbx Library that I created yesterday. So, Central is finding it. But, in Central Libraries, the "Size" column keeps spinning. So, its using CPU. Like its searching for the library.

First maybe open Central and turn off automatic updates and clear the temp folder, then restart it and see if the "Size" column keeps spinning.

To fully and properly uninstall Central follow the below steps.

1. Uninstall Orbx Central using the Windows Settings/Apps panel.

2. Delete C:\Users\ name\AppData\Local\Orbx-central-updater

3. Delete C:\Users\ name\AppData\Roaming\Orbx\Central

4. Reinstall Orbx Central

I apologizer for this turning into such a time-suck. Really.

I cleared the temp folder, tuned-off updates and restarted. A red error box came up indicating that Orbx Worker did not load. Size in Libraries still spinning.

Followed the steps.

On Central re-opening, I got the same red Worker not loading warning. When it asked me to create the library, I directed it to the one I created yesterday: C:/Orbx Library.

It spun for quite awhile, then brought the create your library dialogue box up again. So, it couldn't find it,, either. I can't get past that.

Shall I try creating a directory on D:, or maybe create a new folder with no files in it, and direct it to it (that would probably require re-install?)?

Well, it did let me get passed while spinning. When I went to Libraries there was my library, but with 0 size. I hit Save and it spun looking for awhile then came up with "Timed Out". So, it does not like C:/Orbx Libraries.

I re-named the old library on C:, then switched to my D: drive and created an Orbx Library there. Empty.

When I click Save, it searches for awhile then times-out.  For some reason, Central is not seeing my hard drive, it seems. I also received an error dialogue that it could not sync my sim.

Well, damn!

The library has stopped searching, and has accepted C:/Orbx Library, but shows 0 size, and when I fly, still not Orbx. Looks like P3d default.

As a test, I verified Base and Washington, but still shows 0 bytes, and not Orbx scenery in sim.

I'll contact you Monday. I love this hobby; it keeps me drinking!  :)

Its strange, right! The Orbx files are physically on the hard drive. They are in add-ons.cfg. They're in the P3d scenery library grayed-out but checked, Yet the Central library shows "0" bytes, and the scenery does not load. Any suggestions?

Have run the sync simulator function again? Also, maybe log out and back into Central.

The only thing I can really see from your screenshot is you need to Untick the “Dynamic 3D Autogen Vegetation” option in the P3D settings Options/World, then restart your sim.

I can't enlarge the screenshot enough to see anything without turning into a blurry mess.

Are you able to switch to windowed mode, then shrink the whole image onto one monitor and then use the sniping tool to capture the screenshot....I am also using three monitors and that's what I do.

Yes, thanks

The screenshots are much better. :)

But I still see the lime green speed trees....did you restart the sim after unchecking the “Dynamic 3D Autogen Vegetation”?

Maybe try it one more time.

Also, what are your P3D settings at please?

Now that iss likely Orbx. A little embarrassing that un-checking that box could make such a difference. (Thank you).  I'm trying to move-up from FSX:SE to P3D and XP, but they didn't require an intelligence test!

Hi

I think you are being a bit conservative with your settings, here are mine with a lesser Graphics card. Try them and see :)
