active Canary Islands Preparation - Vulkan/ Scenery Load issues

I found the USB plug in SSD I moved XP11 to when MSFS came along.

I am trying to get XP11 running on it.

When I first hooked up it did an update to Vulkan.

Now, I can get through to setting up a flight, but while the flight is loading I get a message that says,

"Error loading the Scenery Package: Custom Scenery: Orbx_C_GB_South_True Earth_Orthos

X-Plane cannot run with this package installed"

Then it suggests I uninstall it. & look at the Log. Which I need to find.

 

However, Orbx Central is finding XP11 ok & shows TE GB South as installed.

 

Does the update to Vulkan require that I uninstall & reinstall all scenery?

Any thoughts on how to respond to the above error message?

Hi TTM

No you do not have to uninstall and reinstall any scenery with the Vulkan update.

We need to test the integrity of the TEGB South orthos as this is the one that appears to be causing an issue.

In order to test that we need to do a couple of things.

Please Clear your Temp folder and move any Backup copy of TEGB South to a safe place on the same disk. If you move it to another disk it will take ages to transfer, so just move it somewhere on the same disk. How to do those actions are illustrated in the attached pic. Ignore the reference to Untick regarding the making of Backup copies if you wish to continue with that option

Then initially run the Verify Files option for TEB South and see if it downloads any files, then try a loading a flight.

Thanks for having a look at this Jon.

During my trying to get it going TE GB North did an update, as did Edinburgh.

So I did what you suggested re the Settings above, & tried TE GB North, but still got the Ortho error message, for TE GB North.

I uninstalled TE GB North & reinstalled & verified, ran again & got the error message.

An extract of part of the Log file is given below:

It mentions missing objects, (cars)  & issues with terrain files, as well as the orthos.

I have updated the XP Library so its a bit of a head scratcher.

Is TEGB South now OK or not?

Hello Jon

Neither TE North GB or South orthos are happy.

I suspect part of the issue is that I have XP on a plug in HD & its going through USB 2.0, which slows things down.

I also suspect that when I took it off an internal SSD some files may have been left behind, or there was some corruption, or some addons that feed in are still on other drives in the PC & not linking to the external drive.

I am tending towards  a complete clean re-install on a new SSD, if Santa obliges.

Accordingly, with that in mind, I do not wish to burn out your eye balls searching a log.txt file when the exercise could be rendered obsolescent.

I do appreciate your assistance.

It is without doubt the best option. I didn't know you had moved the installations from one drive to another slower drive. That would only really have slowed the initial load time so maybe there are files that got left behind.
