Chris Kingdom
Hi, hope anyone can shed some light on this problem I have please. I have just purchased and downloaded True Earth Great Britain South using the FTX Central program. The installation has been successful however on comparing the scenery of my local village it is nowhere as good as the ortho4xp tiles and overlays that I had installed and was running before installing True Earth. I have removed my ortho4xp folders that I had made and Installed in the custom scenery folder as not to cause any conflict with True Earth and have check that the True Earth folders represent themselves in the correct order in the same folder and that my ini file reflects the same. However the scenery is not photo gen like in ortho4xp and for example there is only 4 houses shown on a road location in true earth and there is 24 in ortho4xp with photo realistic houses . I also have noted that telegraph poles and power lines are flashing on screen in True Earth. Also the picture quality has alot more contrast level and is not as clear and sharp as I was using before, my monitor settings are not changed. So am I very disappointed in the comparisons between what I had and what True Earth is showing. If I had known that this was the case I would have not purchased and download True Earth and stayed with what I had generated with ortho4xp. Can anyone advise if im doing something wrong or is that how True Earth is . Regards Chris K
Crom UK
Could you take some screenshots showing the comparison and post here in this thread? I'd also recommend attaching your scenery_packs.ini so that people can cast an eye over the order. This link shows you the recommended way of posting screenshots

Chris Kingdom
If I use that setting my FPS bottoms out as cpu bottlenecks
Crom UK
I think that is the issue here. To see the scenery as intended the World Objects has to be on Max and reducing that removes the number of buildings, trees and other objects generated. There is a separate thread ongoing where it has been suggested that SP1 for TE South has caused a reduction in FPS for some people and this is being looked at. From what I've read and seen in videos the left hand side of the Graphics settings relates to you video card, whilst the right hand side is your CPU. Currently X-Plane does not fully support multi-core processors however this should be addressed as Laminar move towards the Vulkan API. At that point a lot of people, me included, are hoping to see a framerate increase with a higher world objects setting. Most Ortho4XP scenery uses the default autogen whereas Orbx have produced their own for the UK scenery and that does cause an FPS drop for me. However I'm lucky in that unless I'm in VR my FPS is 25-30 near cities and 40-60 out in the wilds. What is your system specs?

Crom UK
Hopefully Vulkan will start to properly use all of those cores when it arrives and help your fps out.

If they are, then the computer will use the lower spec one as default, rather than the 980ti. The 980ti is more than capable to run XPlane at quite high settings. My own experimentation is not to use Process Lasso. It makes next to no difference. Instead what I'd do, is use the monitoring facility in MSI Afterburner to show GPU and CPU utilisation on screen as well as System and GPU RAM and experiment with the graphics sliders until the system looks balanced. Xplane is not multi-thread or hyperthread optimised so balancing the CPU with the GPU is the best option. Ideally you should be looking for no more than 80% GPU utilisation to ensure there's enough graphics overhead to run XPlane. Hope that's food for thought. Chris Kingdom
Hi, Thanks for your reply Fizzelle, My graphics cards are not sli , I have the 980TI for xplane x 3 monitors and the 660 just as a windows control monitor x 1 monitor. Thanks for your advice I will give it a try. But Im still puzzled as to why my ortho4xp looks more realistic than the Orbx TE south.
Nick Cooper
From these shots, how can we tell? This one apparently from TEGB and this one apparently from your own?
