EGLL does not look right

I have the newest version of FTX Central and just download the new GB South.  This is what I see over EGLL.  If I understand the board my ini file is in the right order.

How do I fix this.

Well, I did not arrive at EGLL yet but my departure airport Manston and my last stop Rochester look very similar. As the main problem seems to be the same (urban osm/autogen instead of airport buildings) I think this fits into this thread.

My Scenery Packs.ini had the scenery order FTX Central suggested:

SCENERY_PACK E:\Installationen\FlightSim\X-Plane 11\Custom Scenery\Orbx_B_GB_South_TrueEarth_Overlay/

...

SCENERY_PACK Custom Scenery/Global Airports/

SCENERY_PACK E:\Installationen\FlightSim\X-Plane 11\Custom Scenery\Orbx_A_GB_South_TrueEarth_Custom/

...

SCENERY_PACK E:\Installationen\FlightSim\X-Plane 11\Custom Scenery\Orbx_C_GB_South_TrueEarth_Orthos/

I tried putting the Orbx_A_GB_South_TrueEarth_Custom on top of everything (someone told me this could help) but this did not change the look of Rochester.

Well... thank you once again. This information helped me to get most of the airport at least displaying the correct buildings, all TE-GB entries have to be below the global airports (FTX Central creates a mess in the scenery-packs.ini). As for the exclusion zones, I can easily fix them once I find an airport with clipping buildings.

For fixing this globally there are two options:

  •  the gateway airports have to get fixed with exclusion zones (here there is a risk that a later airport from a different gateway artist could brake it again)
  •  the product ships with an exclusion layer which can be placed easily between the global airports and the main scenery layers

And a third one is maybe too much of work, I don't know, but the double buildings could be removed from the corresponding scenery layer so there are no exclusion zones needed.

For the picture of EGLL the OP posted I can assure you that it is a scenery layering problem in his Scenery_packs.ini.

EGLL HAS exclusion zones for facades - I made it myself and have just doublechecked. The EGLL airport is NOT part of the "global airports" - it is this one:

SCENERY_PACK Custom Scenery/Aerosoft - EGLL Heathrow/

and should be above any South UK stuff to enable the exclusion zones working. The same goes for the

SCENERY_PACK Custom Scenery/Global Airports/

entry - it should be ABOVE all South UK entries, otherwise the exclusion zones of those airports have no chance of suppressing the facades that come with South UK.

The OP´s Scenery_packs.ini file is a mess - with no appearant order - and exclusion zones can only work on stuff BELOW.

You basically want your .ini file organized with "custom airports" first, then "global airports", then all sorts of "overlay and general big area sceneries" then "libraries, installers, etc."

X-Plane will simply dump anything you install on the top.

Cheers, Jan

Jan I looked over the file a few times and seen videos.  I still do not understand it. (old age I guess)  There are about 88 lines.  If you or someone would like to number them in the right  order I will move them.     Thanks.

Well... there is no need for scenery-packs.ini micromanagement. You just have to follow some simple rules:

  • Make sure every addon airport is above Global Airports
  • Make sure that all Mesh layers are at the bottom of the file and below Global Airports (HD-Mesh v4 or Ortho4xp if installed below other scenery meshes)
  • Libraries are not important in most cases, just let them sit where they are as long as the designer does not tell you something else
  • Larger non airport sceneries should be below Global Airports but above all the meshes - in many cases they still work fine if this is not the case, so there's no need to care for them as long as everything looks right

So I suggest searching for all lines in your scenery-packs ini that have 'mesh' in them and put them all together to the bottom of the file. After sorting the meshes go for 'global airports' and put them on top of all the meshes.

Then, for TrueEarth Great Britain collect the three entries and put them below Global Airports and put the London Landmarks on top:

X-Plane Landmarks – London
Global Airports

Orbx_0_GB_South_TrueEarth_Exclusions (optional if installed, see this thread)
Orbx_A_GB_South_TrueEarth_Custom
Orbx_B_GB_South_TrueEarth_Overlay
Orbx_C_GB_South_TrueEarth_Mesh

The default airports need "facade" exclusion zones, they already have ones for objects etc. Hopefully we can get these submitted to LR for inclusion in X-Plane 11.30.

Even some third party airports require exclusions, normally facades (UK2000 EGBB) and sometimes objects (UK2000 EGKK).

At EGKK I had a number of semi-detached UK houses appear within the airport, usually where the underlying image was a photo of a pitched roof building. These could only be removed with object exclusions.

for Orbx_C I have SCENERY_PACK Custom Scenery/Orbx_C_GB_South_TrueEarth_Orthos/ No Mesh is this the same thiing?

Yes - in this case the orthos are technically a mesh layer. This was my fault, the folder 'Orbx_C_GB_South_TrueEarth_Mesh' is named 'Orbx_C_GB_South_TrueEarth_Orthos' correctly.

Anyway, if you just follow the order mentioned above, it should work fine.
