Hi guys

While simming for years I have only ever used the direct GPS routes. I now would like to learn more about aeronautical charts and how to use them. Is there are place online I can visit and view maps etc? Prefererably Australian at first.

Thanks

You can get all of the Australian charts free from Airservices' website.

For example, you can find the Sydney VTC here: https://www.airservicesaustralia.com/aip/current/aipchart/vtc/Sydney_VTC_24MAY2018.pdf

Another section of interest would be the En Route Supplement Australia which has information about most airports in Australia. Or, if you're more interested in instrument flying, you might find the Departure and Approach Procedures useful.

Also, if you want charts for another country you can search for their Aeronautical Information Package. For example "New Zealand AIP".

Gday Shane,

You can get all Aussie charts with the exception of the WACs here (if someone can tell me where I can get a WAC from then please let me know!).

You'll need to click through the agreement etc and you can then get them all.  Start with the VTC and VNC for VFR and then later on play with some of the IFR stuff once you're across it.  The ERSA is the list of all airfields within Aussie which are registered, so a whole bunch of ALAs and minor "bush" airstrips won't be in there.
