All Prepar3d main versions can coexist. I had 2 and 3 in parallel for some time and will keep 3 for some time while migrating to 4. Notably they use separate configuration directories.
BTW, version 4 is not an "upgrade", it's a new version and you have to pay for it. Upgrades (point versions like 4.0, 4.1), on the other hand, can't coexist as they share the same configuration directories.
