  1. One of the reasons I like Lockheed Martin's P3D is because it makes me fell like I am part of the military industrial complex.

All kidding aside, there is a lot of product available for P3D5 and earlier versions, and most of it can be ported over to P3d6.  So instead of spending money you can spend time doing research and moving what you have into P3D6 which is a fabulous sim and well worth the effort.  You can also buy whatever P3D5 Orbx scenery you don't have and move to P3D6.  Having said that, there are developers already moving their products up to P3D6 and some of the scenery is as good as Orbx scenery.  So there's a lot so shopping around that can be done while we are waiting for Orbx to do whatever they are doing.

  2. After trying a lot of flights under varying conditions it appears that the problem was partly with a P3D 6.19 update.  LM has issues another update which seems to have fixed their problem.  However, it also appears that I have a problem with my installation of the update.  Ultimately, to get back to where I can do IFR flights I am going to have to do a clean reinstall of P3D6.  Since everything else works great I am putting that off for now.

  3. Lately I have been flying the A2A T6 around the American Midwest in P3D 6.19.  The scenery and airports are much better than in P3D5.  Up until P3D6 I was not flying much out of Orbx True Earth areas.  I have no desire to try MSFS.  I'm going to stick with P3D6 and maybe stick with P3D5.  There are other developers making their scenery upgraded to P3D6.  I'm hoping Orbx will add some of them as partners.

  4. Leaving KTEX, Telluride on a flight to KSAF Santa Fe.

Circling up to get over the mountains.

Finally on the way.  Had to climb up to 14,600 to get over the mountains.  This image has no post processing.  This is right off the screen grab.  The above two images have some cropping, a clarifying filter, and some color, saturation and contrast optimization in post processing,  Which is better?

  5. I don't think the winter trees are transparent as much as they show as just bare branches with no leaves.  In True Earth areas the winter trees in  higher elevations are white but its a muted white and actually looks pretty good.  In non Orbx True Earth areas the winter scenery in the American southwest is really nice.  I'm still working on learning how to use the new features in the flight planner.

  6. No I updated to 6.19 about 10 days ago.  I got a box that said they were updating 50 files. It took about 30 or 40 minutes to download and install. No problems, it went very smooth.  I have a personal account installation.  A couple of days ago our internet was down for about 24 hours.  A lot of people were down.  Somebody accidently cut a large fiber bundle.  Anyway, P3D would initialize, but was blocked from running.  I got a message that I needed an internet connection.  I knew this but just wanted to see what would happen.  Maybe that's some sort of anti piracy thing.

I have so much Orbx and other scenery that it takes about seven minutes to load from an SSD.  I have an M2 drive that cuts the load time by over a minute, but the P3D5 installation nearly fills it up.  At some point I'm going to move P3D5 to another drive and move P3D6 to the M2 drive, but for now it works fine, so I am reluctant to mess with it.   If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

  7. I never had versions of P3D prior to V5.  I just went directly from FSX to P3D5.  I now fly only in P3D6.  Lately, I have been flying the A2A T-6 around Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado.  The winter scenery in the American Southwest in  P3D6 is absolutely gorgeous.

I have almost all the Orbx P3D scenery so not much left for me to buy.  However, thee are other developers still developing for P3D.  Maybe in would benefit everybody if those developers could become partners with their P3D scenery.

  8. P3D6.19 update now available.   Here is a list of items updated:

    • Fixed issue where in some cases the gauge windows could incorrectly maximize when going in or out of full screen.
    • Resolved crash that could occur in some instances when rendering flight plans in shared cockpit.
    • Fixed issue where the initial flight plan segment would not connect correctly after a direct-from was entered in some cases.
    • Various updates to the PDK DataHarvester sample.
    • Various rendering system stability improvements including cases when the VRAM limit is exceeded while DLSS is enabled.
    • Improvements to various airport backgrounds, elevations, and runways.
    • Fixed crash that could occur when changing vehicles if custom cameras were being utilized.
    • Added AUTOGEN_TREE_LOD_BIAS=1.000000 configuration option in the Prepar3D.cfg file. Setting the values under 1.0 will improve the performance of 3D trees at the cost of visual clarity; setting to 0.0 will disable 3D trees.
    • Fixed issue preventing render-to-texture (RTT) views from appearing in docked panels.
    • Fixed issue preventing IFR flight plan from being activated when flight plan was created or scenario with flight plan was loaded. Scenarios experiencing this issue will need to be saved again after updating for fix to take effect.
    • Adjusted default width of fuel percentage column in Fuel and Payload screen.
