  1. Gave this a quick try tonight after reading this thread and had some strange results.  It did seem to increase FPS on the monitor, but VR FPS was unchanged, and there was more stuttering.  On the monitor, FPS did seem to increase, but I got some strange graphical artifacts.  I had some doubling of images on the bottom 50mm of my screen, flickering on and off, but when I enabled Developer mode, that stopped.  Also, strangely, the Steam FPS counter I had running was showing almost exactly double the inbuilt MSFS FPS counter.  When I switched to VR the FPS was the same on both counters.  I noticed my VRAM was almost maxed out and then maxed out, so that may have been cause for the stuttering and the artifacts.  I am still using a 2080Ti.  I'm also not sure which other settings I should be using.  I had the Frame rate Generation enabled, but noticed I only had FSR2, not FSR3, as an option in the AA settings, and that caused bad blurring.  Not sure if this is meant to be used in conjunction with the DLSS/DSR combination, which doesn't really work for me in VR because it makes the displays less clear.  Doesn't seem to be working for me unfortunately.  With TAA my visuals were good but frames were bad.  With the mod I basically had the same frames in VR or worse (20 at KMIA) and much worse stuttering and some graphical artifacts.

Irrespective of the Orbx position with the release of YSCB for 2020 it means the imagery was available. At the end of the day it is nothing more than a cop out, not just YSCB but all products, by developers where P3D is concerned. The almighty dollar speaks volumes.

I would imagine that the time between the P3D developer asking for access and the MSFS developer asking for access was a long time, so no, that does not mean that the imagery was available in the past.  There is the likelihood that the airport's circumstances or management, or policies changed to allow acces by the later developer.  It is not a small task to gain access to restriced airport areas to allow for on site photography, which is crucial for development of an airport.  We are not talking about aerial or satellite imagery here.  We are talking about on site acces to restricted areas to photograph areas and buildings close up to allow for the accurate creation of textures and layouts.  Also as John stated, the original developer left development well before the introduction of MSFS, and probably not long after the original YSCB was created.  I'm afraid when it comes to any business, which any payware developer is, the almighty dollar is crucial for survival.

I guess they were their “away from home steps”, the set at HARS were quite nice. Not sure how long they’ve had them but like everything else there they look like they’ve had some time put into them. The other thing they had there was the Southern Cross replica which looked like it was brand new. Extremely impressive!

Yes, the ones at Avalon were definitely not that impressive.  The seemed more like a ladder, and were very narrow, just wide enough for one person.  You could feel them swaying as you went up the steps.  Those displays look very impressive.  I would love to visit one day.

  4. I never flew in it, but I got to see the Connie fly at Avalon Airshow a few years ago, and also had the opportunity to take a tour on board.  From memory it was a $5 donation and you could climb the stairs to board and pretty much stay on as long as you wanted.  It wasn't overly busy so after wandering around the plane for a bit I was sitting in a seat and chatting to a couple of the volunteers, I think one was the pilot.  I suggested they should take it up for commercial joy flights, but they said it wasn't allowed, I guess due to the strict regulations around commercial flights of any type.  The main thing I remember is how tall those landing gears are.  It was a bit hairy just climbing the steps to get on board, as they were quite narrow and seemed twice as high as regular steps you'd climb to get on a 737 or A320.  Such a beautiful plane!

  5. Runway gradient will sometimes be listed in the airport information section, or under the runway info section.  From what I understand, this info is only listed if the runway slope is greater than +/- 0.3 degrees.  A lot of runways of major airports which have the appropriate charts will have a runway slope less than this, so it will not be listed.  You can use other information to calculate the slope pretty easily.  On the Airport diagram chart it will list the threshold elevation for each end of each runway.

Subtract the elevation of the lower end of the runway from the higher end. For example, if the elevation of the higher end of the runway is 4,400 feet, and the lower end of the runway is 4,370 feet, then subtracting 4,000 by 4,370 results in 30 feet.

Divide the difference of the elevations by the length of the runway. For the example, the length of the runway is 3,000 feet. Dividing 30 by 3,000 results in 0.01.

Of course when entering the gradient in the FMC you can enter + or - values of the gradient, depending on which end of the runway you'll be starting on.

Of course, the real game may be to find "YMML WEN?" hidden in the scenery per Sante on Orbx Discord or is he just kidding......

Yeah, it was mentioned in the livestream too, Jordan said he placed it in there.  Needle in a haystack though 😅.

  7. Not much you can do about that, you can't make all surrounding roads and car parks a ground poly.  The car parks at YMML are massive.  I think they nailed the portions of the ground poly that they had to make a ground poly.  There is always going to be a transition point, and the one on the bridge happens to be so visible due to the bridge having a texture on a model vs pure photo texture.
