How often do you buy a new printer? It's been probably 15 years since I bought my last printer. I have a Canon MX340 and it's been reliable with very few glitches. I think moving to a new house was the biggest issue and then trying to set up wifi instead of having it connected directly to my computer by cable. The ink is costly but it only takes color and black and white and for me it lasts almost a year.

Once I got over the desire to print out photographs, I ditched my last color inkjet in 2008. I still have my Laserjet 4 from 1994. Reliable and easy to find toner and would be easy to find replacement parts for. I can't imagine any product from the current HP lasting 10 years, but they made quality in the 20th Century.

When is Van Nuys coming to MSFS marketplace

Orbx has absolutely no control over that and cannot say. That is 100% a question for Microsoft (that they won't answer). Orbx submits it to the Marketplace and then Microsoft takes its time before eventually posting it. Same thing for updates. Those of us who buy directly from Orbx always end up getting updates much sooner than Marketplace purchasers simply because of the process Microsoft has in place and there is nothing Orbx can do about it. A guess would be that Van Nuys will show up at the same exact time as the next update for MSFS.

  3. I'd rather go without a favorite airport than to have one that is clearly a bad port from an obsolete sim even at these prices. Orbx needs to do better than to merely name them Throwback Thursday. They need a better marketing name that makes it clear that these are not up to Orbx usual standard. Otherwise they really cheapen the brand.

there will most likely be newcomers to flight sim via Xbox - & a fully disclosed DLC total inventory $cost would seem to be ethical!

    Ethical? OMG!

If it means that much to you, why not keep a spreadsheet with all of your costs by company? That way if they do something that is actually unethical, like lie to you in their imaginary "total inventory $cost" listing, you won't be fooled. I mean I know it makes me sound ancient, but back in the day we tracked our expenses ourselves rather than relying on the cloud. And yet still I never accidentally spent the family fortune on DLC. It is what us old-timers used to call "personal responsibility" before that phrase was deemed offensive.

Wolfko I also purchased the DVD version. So like you am a little concerned. After 4 months of trying I finally managed to get my son an Xbox X for his birthday in early July. So the Xbox X MSFS release date works well for me. I’m thinking MSStore shows my DVD version as a purchase because I had to enter the serial number in once on first install so should class me as having a copy. Fingers crossed.

It is absolutely impossible for the PC DVD version to work on any console. The PC/Windows code is not even remotely compatible with an Xbox architecture. Since Aerosoft is the exclusive worldwide distributor of the rare DVD version of MSFS, you need to ask them about whether or not you can get some code to get a "free" crossgrade to Xbox. The answer will be "no" for what it's worth. Same answer as those who bought the Steam version of MSFS.

"not least the reason for having a $500 console against a $4000 PC."

I can't even begin to imagine what kind of PC you could get for $4k, but it would leave any console in the dust. I bought an $800 Alienware last summer in anticipation of MSFS and it had an RTX 2060 that has proven more than adequate. Yes, that is $300 more than the Xbox. But I can do far more with a PC than I ever could with a mere console. Indeed, I use this PC all day every day. So I would say most people who are of an age to want to consider serious simming would be better off with a more expensive PC than an otherwise useless to them game console that will have far less support for addons (and I don't mean scenery since that is easy to make work on both platforms) and utilities.

Point taken , but for me MSFS will always be my Sim of choice . In fact I would gladly pay a nominal charge ( 4.99 or per month ) for premium access to there servers . In the last couple of weeks I have loaded up both XP11.53 and P3DV5.2 to see the improvements in both products . And believe me they have improved , but still as stated above my Sim of choice will always MSFS .

    Cheers

    John

Same here. MSFS will always be my sim of choice and the flightsim world is moving forward. This understandably has created anger among some of those who are still using the older platforms, and some have invoked the age-old tactic of fear/uncertainty/doubt (FUD) as each of their previous criticisms has been addressed by Asobo. Suggesting that MSFT "could" abandon the incredibly successful platform is FUD. MS isn't going to abandon MSFS (a showcase for Azure/Bing) and, even if they did, we would still be able to use it AND companies like Orbx could make new imagery to make up for anything lost from Bing. It is disappointing but hardly surprising to see someone resort to that, but the truth is that FlightSim runs fine (though not as pretty) without streaming and if you don't understand that, please don't spread misinformation about it.

Now back to flying my "new" study-level DC-6 into Kai-Tak.

  7. From their release:

"This release represents the start of what we think is going to be an entirely new era for PMDG products and our ability to deliver high quality, high detail simulations in the years to come. Many of you have been avid PMDG fliers for nearly 24 years now and I can say with certainty that the new DC-6 is the finest looking, deepest, most feature rich simulation we have ever produced. Microsoft Flight Simulator represents absolutely the most perfect environment for this simulation, and with our simulation of the long-range fuel system on the DC-6, you can operate to all corners of the globe with ease and reliability."

This should put to rest any nonsense about the MSFS SDK not being ready to create professional, study-level aircraft.

    What a beauty!

Sorry again John.  I simply refuse to fly anything but A2A's 182, Comanche, Bonanza, and Cherokee.  Same for PMDG's 737, 747, & 777.  And if it's not the Aerosoft Airbus I don't care about it.  I absolutely refuse to buy this sim till all of the above are in it.  I say this because I plan on spending $1600 on Orbx in one shot.

So you refused today's launch of PMDG's DC-6 because you "Only want the jets" and yet you "refuse to fly anything but A2A's 182, Comanche, Bonanza, and Cherokee"? Odd.

The fly by wire Airbus A320 is really good and getting better with each passing week. Dismissing it without even evaluating that free option is also really odd. But okay. Aerosoft has also released their CRJ to much acclaim, and PMDG's 737 is only a couple of months away. Now actually is a really good time for you to begin your inevitable upgrade to MSFS (which doesn't require any TrueEarths or such packages as you get the whole world for the $60 sim purchase!). If you wait for all of those aircraft to be available from those devs before upgrading, it will be at least five years of missing out on the best sim of any type humankind has ever developed. But the choice is yours.

I really hope WU7 will cover AU and NZ, I'm getting bored of WU's being Europe (bar the first 2 being Japan and USA) and hope to see more of world (although I bet getting the right data is very hard for Africa/South America/Asia etc)

It does make sense, I am sure you will agree, for Asobo to update the most important and used regions of the world first. I also cannot imagine being bored with any of the world updates so far. They have been great with upgraded airports and provided at no cost.

     I need help.

I acquired Flight Sim 2020 the deluxe version with CDs in France in October 2020.

Residing in Cyprus, I installed the game on a dedicated computer meeting the standards required by FS.

With some difficulty, I managed to install it and get it to work perfectly.

    I updated whenever needed.

Two months ago after doing an update, I wanted to reopen the program, and there I have a message that says "insert disc 1".

My cd player is working fine. The disc N ° 1 is inserted, nothing to do I cannot pass this request.

I have disabled Windows and Panda Dome protection, I have changed the time on my computer to the French time and it still does not work.

I live in an isolated place and I have no local contact to help me.

Just to let you know, Aerosoft is the exclusive seller of the DVD version. They provide support in their forums for their product. This particular question has been asked and answered over there many times since last August.

What did you do? I have both issues with my installation.

If you install freeware addons, always check to make sure you don't have one the covers the same area as the scenery you just purchased. You will end up with models on top of one another and all sorts of other weirdness that others won't be able to reproduce.

Looks doubtful , but I would say ; I have several Gaya airports and they do excellent work . :(:)

We all do. They make most of the "free" Asobo airports that are in the World Updates. It would seem that is the main reason we haven't seen many new Gaya airports since that initial set of releases shortly after MSFS's launch. Welcome back, Gaya!

    Hello,

there does seem to be a problem with the Digital Designs forum link.

    I will make enquiries.

I understand from your post that you are not having a problem with the scenery itself.

Even though he purchased the scenery from SIM Market instead of direct from Orbx, he'd like Central to show that he has purchased LOWS direct from Orbx.

I was waiting to see if anyone else was seeing it too before I made the case.

I don't think many of us have the issue you are facing. Is it possible that you have one of the many freeware Frankfurt addons (from Flightsim.to) installed? Otherwise it seems like a weird anomaly that is going to be hard for Orbx to reproduce. The good news is that the conversion to DirectX12 to allow for the Xbox version of MSFS will allow better utilization of CPU cores. That should help everyone.

    Very nice indeed

I would not duplicate people (avatars) right in the same scene like in picture #4, the girl in white and gray dress is twice and that kills the realism

    Cheers

    Carlos

That's her sister. Not a realism killer. And boy have we come a long way when the top airport complaint is the people inside the airport!

My own feeling is that Orbx is not quite the stand-out company in terms of quality that it once was . . .

    LOL!

Well, anyway... I love my London Landmarks and I will purchase Paris the moment it becomes available for purchase. I have no idea what cities you will do next, but I eagerly await the announcements. When I first saw MSFS on Youtube, I thought I'd buy a few airports but couldn't imagine buying non-airport scenery. Thanks for proving me wrong and congrats on taking your scenery to the next level.
