  1. It's really a shame that MSFS has such an easy to use system for adding freeware scenery and liveries to it (simply copy them to your Community folder - what could be simpler?) and yet people install a needless "Addon Linker" executable from someone they know nothing about. Microsoft made it easy. Others are making it more complicated.

  2. Meanwhile the upgrade to SU5 went flawless for me and a few million others as well. Didn't even notice what the two hotfixes fixed because I was too busy flying. Asobo is an amazing developer that has created a better sim than any company from any other country (their "A Plague Tale: Innocence" was also groundbreakingly beautiful and award-winning). I see no need to take shots at them or the country they are from. I'm not an Aerosoft fan at all, but I don't take shots at the country they are headquartered in.

Hopefully your WD MyCloud drives are not subject to the WD malware attack.

I'm no developer but I'd imagine if We Love VFR are able to do it, Orbx should be able to also. Nevertheless I'd rather keep the We Love VFR models as they are far higher quality than the Orbx pack. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

Here is a post from the creator of We Love VFR, who was asked "I would like to know if it compatible with the recent Orbx EU Great Britain Central release?"

Not likely. Sadly Orbx didn't include exclusion rectangles with their object to remove any lower-level objects. I treat my addon like autogen on steroids (it's not a real autogen but it works in a similar way). This means my objects should have the lowest priority. This also means I don't remove anything as I believe that custom local scenery addons should be better than my half-automated approach.

I don't know about other objects, but their radomes are sadly very bad. I added this case to the backlog, I mean adding exclusion rectangles to my mod, to be able to move my mod higher than, for example, GB central, to remove their objects. I can't promise anything, as adding 5, 50 even 250 exclusion rectangles might not be a problem. But adding 200000 of them might be.

  4. This was a day one purchase for me because I was sure that Orbx had learned from the London Pack fiasco that still haunts them with 1 and 2 star ratings in the Marketplace. How can Orbx release a brand-new scenery that actually contains inferior duplicate models that have been included in MSFS for free for months? How does that happen?

I am going to have to rethink this day one purchase strategy. I am, however, enjoying flying around Fall City and Siletz Bay.

I set it to 0 and I installed some Orbx sceneries. I still have static aircrafts, maybe now from those Orbx sceneries. Is there any possibility to throw them away?

Most airport sceneries in MSFS have static aircraft. That's been true since the first week it shipped. Only a couple of devs made it possible for you to remove them (by having the static aircraft for their sceneries in folders you could delete. This all has been debated here and elsewhere many times. Personally, I like the static aircraft. You don't. But there is no option with Orbx scenery to disable them. I wish I had simply stated that when I first saw your question, but I was actually tired of answering it after nearly a year.

About SU5...I can now on an older system, with a GTX1070 8GB card...keep at 29/30 FPS set to Ultra at nearly 4K on the screen.  What did I lose, in SU5 to get that FPS performance?

    My 36 cents...

Not sure I'd pay as much as 36 cents for that analysis. And given the very high-end graphics nature of the Xbox console, I think your assertion that somehow the graphics in the PC version have been dumbed-down is ludicrous and does not in ANY way jibe with what I have seen in SU5. If you check with people who stream for a living you'll see that none of them are whining about decreased graphics fidelity and they'd actually know since that is their livelihood.

Perhaps you should check your settings and ensure that there wasn't a slowdown in photogrammetry due to a sudden and temporarily increase in the number of simultaneous users before you go chucking the best and best looking sim in the known history of the universe for one of the obsolete ones that is not long for this world. But if this is truly your swan song in MSFS-land: dog speed. You will be missed.

Until you inevitably realize your mistake.

  8. Just keep in my that I don't own EGLC, but I do own Landmarks London and, as said above, it was the first place I flew around after installing ALL the updates. London Landmarks is not broken. There could be some issue with some building or something like that which I didn't notice, but London Landmarks certainly does not crash SU5 with the updates to all the World Updates. I am using the Orbx version, but it hasn't changed in months and is the same as the current MS Marketplace version.

  9. The first place I went yesterday after installing all the updates (including going to Content Manager and installing all five updates for all five previous World Updates (!!)) was London to check out how my Orbx London pack was doing. Looked great to me, though I may have missed something and, of course, it was a lot smoother FPS wise, so I'm happy. However, there is a message in the forums of another well-known developer that I will post below. I learned my lesson about posting anything about a non-Orbx partner here, so I won't mention them or their product by name, but it seems to imply that we are all about to see a LOT of updates to various sceneries in MSFS-land...

If you have updated to Sim Update V.. please read carefully:
With the July 27, 2021 MSFS update (Sim Update V), there has been numerous changes to the game engine. Some of the changes make wrong textures show at addon airports.

If you purchased **** via the MSFS Marketplace:
We've had early access to Sim Update V and have already submitted a **** update for Microsoft to publish in mid-July. Unfortunately it takes Microsoft several weeks to publish updates, and there is a large queue of many developers submitting updates at the same time. We expect the update to be live soon.. though we have no estimate from Microsoft.

  10. I'm starting to realize that I prefer products like this to actual airports as most of the default ones are fine for me since I'm not a real pilot. I bought the London pack on day one. Bought Paris on day one. Gonna buy this on day one.

And since Asobo increased performance dramatically in SU5 for me (I no longer am consider the jump from 16GB to 32GB of RAM!), which downloaded and installed flawlessly and works as expected for 99% of us, I now fly around London happier and snappier than I ever have. Can't wait to do the same in other parts of Britain!

    Thanks Orbx!

This has been an issue for some and the latest patch to MFS has made no difference.

Are Orbx working on the London city pack so that it works with MFS London photogrammetry.

Currently there is empty space and graphical artefacts on the photo scenery where photogrammetry buildings should be making the package useless

Did you install (via Content Manager) the updates to the previous World Updates? There were a few gigabytes of updates for the UK update from Asobo, but it has to be installed separately from SU5.

  12. There is nothing fundamental about either that would keep them from eventually appearing on Xbox. It is interesting that every single World Update was also updated for Sim Update 5. Makes we wonder if we are all about to see a ton of airport/scenery updates from Orbx and others that may make them more compatible with Xbox and Sim Update 5.

    • Thanks 1
  13. I think it is fair to say that every built-in scenery, and every freeware or payware scenery will benefit ultimately for the performance improvements in SU5. There are no performance improvements on Xbox since this will be the first version for Xbox and it will be the baseline by which to measure future performance gains on that platform. No one today can tell you if some scenery under every scenery will be 100% free of stuttering, but scenery developers have learned a lot about MSFS performance over the past year and I would expect that any such issues on Xbox will likely be addressed quickly. My own expectation is that there will be none with the Sydney pack on Xbox on launch, but that's just an educated guess. We'll all know within 24 hours of launch just what kind of performance MSFS on Xbox provides and until then, it is guesswork.

  14. I would advise anyone who thinks that a large group of gamers are going to abandon gaming for flying around A320s in a simulator where they cannot shoot down enemies to temper their expectations. I would also suggest that it is ludicrous to suggest that it takes a $4,000 PC to perform as well as the Xbox console. I bought an $850 PC last year and its great for MSFS and that's before this performance update. Plus, of course, it's a PC and not a disposable game console that I have no other use for.

And for any serious flight sim enthusiasts who decided to wait for Xbox, just know that the experience will never, ever be as good or complete as on PC. The announced extremely study-level A320 cannot, for example, ever run on Xbox because that is a closed console (software wise) and you cannot run executables outside the sim. Any addon that requires code being run outside the sim will not ever run on Xbox. Much flight hardware will also never work on Xbox. And after that initial rush of Xbox gamers with GamePass get bored with it, everyone will realize that it was unreasonable to expect people who spend 20-40 hours a week killing various creatures with a game controller to get seriously into flight simulation.

It's much ado about nothing and not a gamer-changing experience.

Thank you Adam. Yes, not only the scenery, also the helicopter looks nice.

Thanks Wayne. From what I read 42 deg was already a relief for those on the west coast. On the other hand, the impact always depends on the humidity, 45°C in the desert is harmless, 45°C in India just before the monsoon is a pain.

As someone who lives in the desert, 45°C in the desert is FAR from harmless, even with 6% humility. We do joke about it being a "dry heat," but it kills people every year. The overnights above 90 Fahrenheit can also be deadly as it does not give the body time to cool off in a 24 hour period.

And for locations that are not used to intense heat, the effect is far worse. Many do not have air conditioning. British Columbia saw hundreds die in less than a week due to the recent heatwave.

"Earlier this week, Lytton, about 150 kilometres northeast of Vancouver, recorded the highest temperature ever seen in Canada on three consecutive days, topping out at 49.6 C on Tuesday as an unprecedented heat wave scorched Western Canada."

TBH we haven't been told exactly how this would work, so I cannot really comment with that knowledge. If something becomes clearer before the 27th, we'll let everyone know. If we can "enable" the PC-bought products via OC to appear on Xbox, we will do that. Not sure we are going to be able to, or even allowed to.

Okay, Anna. Thanks for the clarification. But understand that in order to do that, Microsoft would have to have access to not only Orbx's records as to who purchased what, but also what your customer's Xbox login is. And right now Orbx itself does not have that information. So there is a fair amount of effort needed on the part of both Microsoft (and I see no indication that they have changed their stance about MSFS products purchased outside their marketplace) and Orbx to make it happen, and apparently neither side is making any effort at the moment towards a resolution.

Hi - yes we will be on the Microsoft Xbox Marketplace!

Our understanding is that if you currently own one of our products on PC, and that same product is available on Xbox, you will get it "for free."

We will need to optimise the products to run on Xbox so at this stage we don't know how many products we will have there from day 1, but we'll try to have as many as we can, as soon as we can!

Hold on there. Are you saying that if we own one of your products via MSFS Marketplace, and are using the same Xbox login on PC and Xbox, that we'll get it for "free"? Because that's easy. You are not saying that if we purchased are Orbx products directly from you that they'll magically show up on Xbox for free, right? Because that seems absolutely impossible to achieve without a fair amount of work from Orbx with Microsoft that I don't see happening any time soon.

Can you please clarify that you do indeed mean that somehow our Orbx Central purchases for PC will magically appear for "free" on the Xbox?

  18. Orbx is claiming that such purchases will be available on Xbox, but I don't believe it. How exactly is Orbx communicating our purchase details to Microsoft so that these purchases show up on Xbox? They aren't. Nor can they. Orbx doesn't have our Xbox login usernames. So I think they better update that advice to say that only purchases through the MSFS Marketplace will be "free" on Xbox.

  19. I bought a machine last July specifically for running MSFS and it was $850 for the entire brand new Alienware. I only run at 1080p, but I have never been disappointed in MSFS performance, and Asobo's new update should improve performance even more. You don't need an outrageous PC to enjoy MSFS, and GPU prices are ludicrous in general, and particularly right now. Even with that 3060, the PC you listed will be far more powerful than the vast majority of MSFS users have. If you are going to go all the way, go ahead and get 32GB of RAM rather than 16. And don't worry about RAID. The way you are planning to use those three drives is almost exactly what I have done and I do not regret it.

  20. Not sure that the addons that run as Windows apps can be converted to Xbox. As a game console only, it provides a very limited experience versus a PC with a real operating system. It's one reason the newly announced third-party A320 won't ever be available on Xbox.
