Pilot's Software FS Global 2010 and ORBX/FTX Global Base

Hi,

just looking back through the ORBX/FTX "Definitive Guide" and then looking at the Pilot's Software website and feeling a bit confused. Is FS Global 2010 effectively an enhancement to FTS Global? Can't quite figure it out from the blurb, and it doesn't get much mention on the ORBX site (but I suppose it might not if it's not actually  an ORBX product).

Trying to get the best possibly appearance using the ORBX environment - still new to all this but having fun,

cheers,

Andy

Hi Andy

FS Global 2010 is a terrain mesh, a map of elevations. It is an enhancement to the simulator, not specially to Global base which is the set of textures. As you guessed it, it is not an OrbX product but one released by an OrbX partner, Pilot's.

A good mesh dramatically improves the suspension of disbelief except if you fly only over flat terrains :).

Yes it' s a must have add-on but then you get these airports "plateaux" even after running the vector tool.

Do you guys get these plateaux as well ? May it be on default or non-default airports

Yes, and Nick Cooper explains it best in the #2 post of the below thread :)

Yep, I get these "plateau" airports all over the place with Pilot's Mesh, with or without the FTX Vector configuration tool applied. You can supposedly manually fix these elevation problems but in some cases the airports are not listed and there's nothing you can do about it. For example, in Southern California MCAS Miramar and MCAS El Toro identifiers are not found with the AEC tool and so these two prominent airfields sit a good 50 ft. or so above the surrounding terrain. Not good.
