sigwx
Hi Guys, I'm currently chasing a Crash to Destop I have in the PAEN (Kenai Mun.) area. Tried it also with other planes, disabled all other sceneries, but it looks like the fault is within the PAEN package. When disabling the scenery the flight continues fine. I've saved the flight here http://sigwx.de/tmp/_Trouble@Kenai.zip The fault is reproducable with that FLT. If there is a general issue, it will hopfully also reproducable to you. Last changes on my FSX installation, as far as I know was ORBX libs from Feb, and the 1.1 updates for some Airport sceneries in January... Holger Sandmann
Hi Andreas, I loaded your saved flight a couple of times but didn't have any issues even with all sliders full right. Does Windows Event viewer give you any indication which specific module causes the crash? Unless it's an OOM I'd suggest to look for any third-party PAEN files you may have on your system. Run a search for any .bgl files with "PAEN" of "Kenai" as part of their names; anything without FTX in the file name and outside the Orbx folder could be such a file. Cheers, Holger

But perhaps you will see something more:.http://www.sigwx.de/tmp/PAEN_findfiles.txt I only have a question to PAEN DX10/DX9.bgl (on/off) which state should it have, when DX10 in on? OOM, I've made the OOM fix a couple of month ago, but I'd never seen an out of memory message here. How do identify the OOM Message or other symptom? UIautomationCore.dll in c:\fsx is of 21.10.2006 05:29:50 Do you have some more suggestions? Does it make sense to try & error by disabling PAEN*.bgl files? sigwx
update: I've just found, that crash only occurs in season: Winter
Holger Sandmann
Hi Andreas, that list of your search results looks OK to me. If you're using FSX with DX10 preview mode then you want to have that option selected in the PAEN control panel. I've read of util.dll crashes in conjunction with AI traffic. Does the crash happen with and without AI active? Cheers, Holger
sigwx
Hi Holger, meanwhile I found my way to the control panel and switched it to DX10. AI Traffic was also set to off (all sliders left), and removed all ../scenery/world/traffic*.bgl files. It is still crashing to desktop without a message, seconds after starting the provided .FLT. It is not crashing when PAEN Scenery is disabled, and/or Season is set to other then winter. Regards Andreas
Russ White
Hi Andreas, When around Kenai airport in spring, summer or fall, do you see grass next to the taxi ways, and a few tree's next to the landside of the main terminal?
sigwx
Hi Russ, there is no grass near runway or terminal. Here are some pictures from FSX crash side northwest of PAEN, and airport, where it not crashes. sigwx
Tonight I'd reinstalled in sequence PAEN100, 110 and ORBX Libs 140201 but no change. Also grass in summer doesn't exits. It seems to be really a "Tour de Force" as announced in the PAEN Ads on Top, but in that case I'd prefer the original from Al di Meola
sigwx
Hello Gentlemen, after a 4 hrs completly reinstall of all ORBX sceneries, the problem still exists ( but with some new details: When PAEN 1.00 is installed, the testflight from above can be completed without CTD. But after installation of PAEN 1.10 update, it crashes again. When modifing fsx.cfg TEXTURE_RESOLUTION to <= 26 it is also ok, a higher value will crash. There might be still something wrong with the textures. I've deleted ..\ORBX\FTX_AA_PAEN and installed PAEN 1.00 again. Testflight results with no errors, but in summer season I can't see any grass textures. Would you please come and help to sort this out? I'm sorry, I have no infomations, which files are affected by the installation process. Regards, Andreas
sigwx
Hi Again, I solved the problem over the weekend. I made a fresh reinstall of my FSX Acc. and installed only SAK 100+Patch1 +Libs 140201 + PAEN100 = No Crash. After upgrade to 110, CTD occurs again. Removing ../ORBX/PAEN folders and reinstalled PAEN 100 = No crash. So it is not possible to use the PAEN110 Upgrade in Winter season. Russ White
Hi Andreas, Sorry to hear of your ongoing woes. The update to 1.1 changes the PR build to freeze over the float pond during snow cover, that was the only major change to the build. I have tried to recreate your crash but am having no luck. If you are experiencing no issues with version 1.0 then i would suggest continue using that, the only real difference is the float pond not freezing over in winter. sigwx
Hi Russ, you are welcome. thanks for reply, and further explanations. No freezing ponds are of course better than a freezing FS, and I can easily live with that. Ok, lets enjoy the upcomming spring, and probably next winter I will tell the guys in the forums, Russ has hidden a stash near N60°35.933' W151° 15.490' Cheers, Andreas Btw. I'm running Win7/64 with FSX Acceleration.
