Dazkent
Hello I am really impressed with FTX Global, it looks great and runs really well on my dual core system, I have noticed one thing since installing and I wonder if someone can give me some advice. When flying at night I am getting this red/ brownish effect in the far distance near the horizon. it only happens when I am flying at altitude (normally around 30,000 ft). It looks like the land texture is not being drawn completely? then sometimes it just pops into place. I have attached some screenshots to hopefully demonstrate as the effect is not very bright
Dazkent
I have just done a flight in the daytime and the effect can be seen more clearly pic 1 you can see a "grey band" in the distance pic 2 The land mass in the top right pic 3 Part of the texture has now loaded my specs are Dual core 2.8ghz processor, windows Vista 4Gb Ram, Ati 4870 512mb Gfx card Hope someone can help Many thanks Darran
jpreou
I believe that is normal. FSX will only draw textures out to a specific distance and then it draws a simple default texture. I think you can change it in one of the config files. It might be the LOD people mention from time to time. It is done this way to reduce memory overheads I believe. Tim Harris
Level of detail radius slider (LOD) in your FSX graphics settings
Dazkent
Hi Tim I checked my settings in FSX and LOD is already set to the far right (large)
Tim Harris
Maximum LOD slider is 4.5, you can manually increase this in your FSX.cfg to 6.5 or higher But it will reset if you alter any slider settings after doing so (good reason to use Orbx's FSX-GO to start your sim)
Dazkent
I tried it at various settings and 6.5 seems to eliminate the effect
