Historian
Hi, New to ORBX but purchased EU Scotland from FlightStore and installed it yesterday but noted that FTX Central was launched automatically at the end of the install. It then hung for abot 30 minutes before I had to kill it using Task Manager. Restarted FTX Central manually, selected Europe and then launched FSX successfully. I was able to fly around Scotland viewing the fabulous scenery. Then I purchased EU Wales again from Flightstore and today installed it. Once again FTX Central started automatically but hung. After 30 minutes killed it with task manager but every time I restart and try to apply Europe it hangs. Started FSX and flew from Cardiff but once outside the airfield environment there was no ORBX scenery, just my Horizon Photorealistic scenery. Checked scenery library and ORBX is all above other scenery. Is the hanging of FSX Central causing the problem with the Wales scenery? I have not installed any patches for Wales yet, just downloaded them. Thanks in advance
Wolter van der Spoel
Hi there, did you get all updates and patches from the support page => http://fullterrain.com/support.html please install those and also when there get the latest library files and install these as last to everything, that should bring things into shape again
Historian
Thanks for the very prompt reply, I have run the two patches and re-run the library support files exe. FTX Central has been restarted and after 15 minutes it's still 'running' apply. There seems to be no CPU usage going on. I'm on Windows 7 64bit with 8GB memory. thanks
Wolter van der Spoel
that's really odd, one out of the box, do you have a anti virus program running, if yes which one and have you excluded the fsX main folder from being continuously scanned ? Historian
I have AVG Free and it's not set to scan continuously as far as I can see.
Wolter van der Spoel
please make sure that the AVG proggy is disabled for fsX.exe, we know from past issues that it a lil PITA to say the least
Historian
FSX.exe added to exceptions. I have also ensured that FTX Central runs as administrator. FSX Central still hangs whenever I try and do anything with it. Time to uninstall - re-install ? (I did just look at Scotland through FSX and it's still working fine). Cheers
Wolter van der Spoel
maybe try and exempt FTX Central also from the AVG thingy ?it has nothing to do with the install, and as the scenery is not having issues the only thing one could do is to re-install the full libraries again and see if that cures the issue, although I doubt that as you already did that. Misha Cajic
Any photoscenery (in this case Horizon VFR), will always appear above landclass scenery (like FTX Wales), no matter where you put it in the scenery library. If you truly want to know if it's working, disable the Horizon VFR photoscenery and then check if the scenery looks correct. As for your FTX Central problem, not sure about that, all I would be able to suggest is to reinstall the latest libraries, but seeing as you already did that... Historian
OK, I have now re-installed the libraries (FTXORBXLIBS_130723 ) again and have also disabled ALL my Horizon scenery. Lo and behold the Welsh scenery appears in it's glorious abundance. However FTX Central still refuses to do anything. Just out of interest should FTX Central automatically start up when I install scenery or fixes or should it (as per the pdf's) wait to be started manually? thanks again
Historian
Un installed ORBX files and then re-ran the Wales-EU set-up. As before FTX Central started up and hung at the end of the install. Restarted FTX Central manually and was able to set Europe with no trees. Then installed patch 001 for Wales (which also starts FTX Central - also hung). Restarted FTX Central manually and it hangs every time I try and do a change. Cheers
Wolter van der Spoel
not sure what the issue is, I'll have to ask the coder of the application what could be the plausible cause for this, please have some patience as I need to contact him for this, thank you for your on this cooperation in advance
Historian
Thanks for all your assistance I will hold fire until I hear from you again. Thanks
Historian
I'm a patient chappie but the last comment on this topic was nearly two weeks ago. I have now uninstalled all of FSX ORBX and associated products. Re-installed a clean FSX plus SP1 and SP2. Re-installed ORBX England (and fix 1 2 and 3 + latest libraries). FTX Central still just hangs every time I try and get it to apply anything. It always comes up as Europe ticked and use ORBX trees. I cannot change this to anything else. Current machine is running Windows 8 64bit. Hopefully you can offer some suggestions as this clearly is not working.
Wolter van der Spoel
sorry mate, I've been away for a few days of R&R with the family, this one slipped through the cracks somehow, my apologies for that, I'll again poke the coder, this time with a big firecracker
Historian
Wolter, I think you forgot to light the firecracker.
John Venema
In all fairness we have sold hundreds of thousands of copies of software that includes FTX Central and yours is the first reported case in six years where FTX Central does not run properly without a logical explanation. I can only think that something in Windows 8 64-bit is causing this. Have you recently applied any patches or Windows Update to Win8? We don't actually official support Windows 8 since no-one on the Orbx team uses it and it does not have the best reputation as a platform for FSX. Short of downgrading you to Windows 7 I don't see a quick solution to this issue for you.
Historian
My apologies if I have confused you, this actual machine is running Windows 7 64bit. All the other PC's in the house are running Windows 8 and I tend to forget this one sometimes. Apart from re-installing Windows completely (something I would rather not do) are there any other suggestions? What is FTX Central actually doing that I could do manually? Thanks Geoff
Historian
I really like the software you supply but this problem with FTX Central means that I cannot update any additional scenery to my FSX set-up. I can confirm that I use Windows 7 64bit as per my second message of August 17th. Hopefully you can come up with a solution soon or I will be requesting a refund. regards Geoff
Historian
Having just returned from holiday I am somewhat surprised to find no suggested solution to this problem. Please can you advise how I go about getting a refund for my three UK scenery packs. thank you.
