SRTM for Australia ?

Hi

I was flying SP4 from Khancoban to Cooma today (for the first time ever) and couldn't help but think that Holger's nice mesh 76m resolution was not entirely doing justice to the Snowy mountains.

Do you guys have any clue when the STRM 30 m sharper mesh will be put into the public domain for down under, if ever ?

Thanks

Hi Dominique,

sure would be nice to have access to (affordable) high-resolution terrain data. We frequently check GeoScience Australia and other data distributors but so far no luck. The Australian Government actually offers 30-m elevation models for reasonable prices but they are derived from the downsampled (90m) SRTM data and thus don't offer much if any improvement.

Cheers, Holger

Yes I agree with the OP Orbx Australian scenery and especially the Snowy Mountains is looking a bit under done now in comparison to what we have just across the ditch where the Mount Ruapehu/Tongario area including Mt Ngauruho (AKA Mt Doom in Lord of the Rings) is rendered in exquisite detail. Its not just the mesh there is just a much higher level of general detail in the latest Orbx scenery compared to the older releases for Australia.
