simulatorflyer
Heading up to Branches Station with a sack of supplies for a local fellow that's supposed to wait for me by the strip when I land. How did I end up in this situation you ask? A dare from a local pilot, and a chance to fly his beautiful Auster Autocrat. This is something quite different from the C172. Taxi to rwy 5. Off we go. Flying past Lake Johnson down on my left - heading towards Shotover canyon. The runway at Queenstown can just be seen behind me on my left as I'm about to turn right up Shotover river. Shotover canyon and river on my right. About to cross Skippers canyon bridge over into Skippers canyon. Shotover river and Skippers canyon is apparently popular sites for white water rafting, mountain biking and four wheel driving. Branches station up ahead. Downwind of T002. Turn to final. And there he is, waiting for his sack of supplies. Nice little aircraft the Auster. Parked and unloaded. The old fellow doesn't seem to be in a hurry. Map of flight. Here is a high resolution photo of Branches Station. And some info on the activities in and around the canyons for those interested. This is a very short scenic trip perfect for a little old bush plane, or something similar.
