toby23
I'm trying to get rid of 'loading' messages flashing on screen while flying round Orbx PNW areas. I've noticed, using Procmon, that FSX is looking for .bmp versions instead of the actual .dds files. Is this normal behaviour or can I safely add a mipped .bmp version of these missing files to the appropriate directory? Do the developers think that would help at all? Thanks, Toby
Holger Sandmann
Hi Toby, that's normal behavior in FSX, which looks for either .bmp or .dds versions. Adding .bmp versions might get rid of those messages but .dds is actually the more efficient format for the graphics card so you may in fact make things worse. Things to be concerned about in ProcMon logs are files that are missing entirely because they may lead to an excess of FSX attempts to find them. Still, even those need to be put into perspective: notice that in the course of just a couple of minutes ProcMon logs several million file access calls meaning even if a few issues remain FSX will not spend more than a couple of microseconds on them.
