I'd like to see them pull off that wingtip-carving-the-water manoeuvre on the front page in real life without inducing a catastrophic ground (water?) loop...

Seriously, don't think it has the wing area to support 200kg given what it takes to keep an average microlight (hell, even a hang-glider) airborne. Kinda reminds me of the Icon-A5 in concept - flying jetski - and probable target audience - think rich bogans, full sleeve tats and bearing spacers in their earlobes, who already have motocross bikes and jetskis... looking for the next "extreme" - sorry, that's X-trEme ::) - toy to crash. Although I think the A5 is more likely to actually see production...

[/skepticism] :P

Cheers,

Derek

Would be nice if they had some images/footage of it actually flying instead of it just sitting on the ground or just skimming the water in a heavily photoshopped image. ;)

As soon as the lakes here unfreeze they say... :)

OK guys, I'm with Derek, I would not normally be so controversial as this, but, are they bloody joking!! I spent many years flying hang gliders and was involved with friends at the peak of microlight development in the late seventies. Are they honestly suggesting a small composite aircraft with a such a small wing area, high wing loading and tiny engine can support flight ceiling up to 3Km and a cruising speed of 150Kmh???? This has got to be an April fool's joke, surely?? Maybe my scepticism can be supported by the lack of Youtube footage. I mean, if you had developed such a fantastic small aircraft as this, absolutely groundbreaking technology, would not the first thing you do was to publish videos of the aircraft in flight? I mean, come on.... and if it is only at the developoment stage then I respectfully suggest the designers go back to college!

I too wonder about the water loop! Seems a bit fanciful.

But hey, if you want to live dangerously you could always fly this thing? Hell, it is so safe they do not have seatbelts!

(Edit: they have cut-out the bit where he nearly stalls a wing in a right turn)

Here is one where they nearly come to grief.

"Up to now we've had the scale model (1 to 3) in the air which showed very good flying abilities," Schmieden said.

Yeah, sure, a scale model.... the emphasis being on the word 'scale.' I bet it didn't fly with the same suggested wing loading and weight to thrust ratio as the full sized version...

Scale model oh boy! I remember flying Cedar roof shingles on U-control set ups as a kid. With a big enough engine you can make just about anything fly. Like a lawnmower!
