Discovery enroute to Stuart Island

Whilst having some fun in the Stuart Island area, I been taking many more flights around here and discovering some real nice Jems..

This flight set off from Friday Harbour and whilst en route to Stuart Island (can not get enough of this beautifully made airstrip) I stumbled upon another real nice airstrip

The Goose is loose as I make a water take off from Friday Harbour

Skimming just under the clouds to keep a visual on things, I notice a real nice looking airstrip out of my right window

Would be a shame just to pass her by, so I make a turn and circle to approach and investigate.. What appears to be another uphill landing, this time I got it right

And so glad I chose to land here, this place has allot of charm

As much as I’m made welcome here, time to get going... I will be back!

And Stuart Island comes into view whilst passing over Spieden Island

So far, I’m really enjoying this area and makes a change to leave the Cascades for a while

Very nice. I spent several flights yesterday taking off from Stewart and landing at Spiedelen going up the slope. THen taking off up the slope, that last long step is a hoot! And going back to land at Stewart. Change plane and try it again.

Very interesting exercise with different kinds of aircraft that can make it (barely).

I tried the Mentor, A2A Cub, Tecnam Sierra, Bird Dog and Ants Tiger Moth. All of them did fine, except the Tiger Moth which was tough to stop. It did, but barely. Will go back with other STOL and close to STOL planes. Anything bigger would not make it alive.
