alainneedle1
OK! I'm building a new rig. The mobo just arrived....came up to $269.99 with the promo code...I chose this one because it can take the 2000MHz menory (that's what I'll be using) and it is almost the same as the Rampage III without the extended bios option (something you'll never use for FSX) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131614 I also received this cooler http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608018 ...that thing is freeking HUUUUUGE.....I had to move some furniture around to get it in the leaving room....OK not that huge but huge.... I had set my mind on the i980x until I saw this http://www.guru3d.com/news/intel-plans-faster-hexacore-core-i7-990x-in-q4/ so i'll be waiting a little longer and get this i990x...knowing me I'll be playing around to see how far I can push it (safely) using the Noctua....eeeeeeeee. As far as the memory goes I'm looking at these http://www.malabs.com/product.asp?product_sku=752&item_no=WX200UX6G7&show=b&pass=&shopid= they are 2000MHz and the timing is exceptionaly good for 2000MHz memory, I also have to make sure they will clear the CPU cooler cause if the heat spreader is too high they will not fit under it. I'll be buying a GTX 485 as soon as they hit the market http://www.guru3d.com/news/geforce-gtx-485--gf100-pcb-spotted/ hopefully at the same time or before the i990x..... I'll keep the same PSU 1300W and the same case + other stuff I already have , I may go for a good SSD also but I think that will cost me about five bottles of champagne and two full week in the hot tub with the wife......be taking a lot of pics. ( not any pics related to the hot tub) building this new rig. so I can share this project with all of you ....so wish me luck and I hope i'll have this done before Christmas....... EDIT: I just got these, better timing and better price also..... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226121&cm_re=Mushkin_6-8-6-24-_-20-226-121-_-Product EDIT AGAIN: AWWWWww.....I cacelled the memory order, I had one drink to many I gess, these are not 2000MHz..... JoseCFII
Don't forget win 7 64. With that motherboard I would recommend 2 OCZ Vertex 2 SSD drives. Since you plan to wait, prices should fall a little. Maybe not by much. Keep us informed.

alainneedle1
Don't worry Skooby I'll take a lot of pics. DJJose, I am seriously thinking about getting this one here so I can take the sata bottleneck out of the equation http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227520 I did not find any review on it (product to new I guess) so if you guys do find one please paste it here so I can read it..I'll keep you up to date with my built. By the way newegg is having a sale on the i980x until the end of the month (cheaper then the i7 975...pfff) .....my fingers are burning.....I'm trying to wait for the i7 990x...... http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007671%20600005862&IsNodeId=1&name=LGA%201366
JoseCFII
Considering the cost of 2 vertex 2s, the additional cost for the sata/ssd drive is justified. I like the idea of having two ssd drives in RAID 0 with an external back-up.
alainneedle1
UPDATE:I just pulled the trigger on this card for FSX, the OS will have its own SSD. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227521
alainneedle1
Since I'm going all the way with a new rig for FSX I want to add Track IR to it so wich Track IR should I buy.....I can hear you......"What he does not have a Track IR yet???" ...I know I know, I've never used one but after reading threads from you guy's who have one it does look like you can't fly without one...... I wil also buy the EZdoc camera addon.....how is it, do they still have bugs in it?

TenBlade
Since I'm going all the way with a new rig for FSX I want to add Track IR to it so wich Track IR should I buy..... I would of course seek the latest version, TIR 5, if I didn´t have it. Now, I do have TIR 4, and since the jump in performance is supposed to be hardly noticeable, I´m not at all thinkning of replacing it. So, if money is tight, get the cheaper TIR 4, you´ll be perfectly happy with it. If the extra money is no issue, get TIR 5 and be happy that you have the latest version. On TIR 4 you still use the TIR 5 software. Bjorn
alainneedle1
Thank you Bjorn, I'll get the TIR 5, now I don't remember but I have read somewhere about some a hat clip but I'm nor sure...is there something else I should get with the TRI 5? Holy Cheese
Alain, if you order the Trackir 5 with Track Clip pro, it comes with a small device to clip on to your headset which has 3 LEd lights on it. The standard Trackir 5, I believe, just comes with a piece with 3 reflectors on it which you have to put on to a baseball cap. I got the version with the Track Clip Pro, and have FSX set up to play the ATC through the headset with the rest of the sounds through the speakers - this works very nicely for me, and it feels more natural for me to wear a headset rather than a hat! TenBlade
I get along fine with the clip for the baseball cap, which I would wear, and have worn on occasional real world flying lessons. So, gives me an authentic feel to wear the cap . Just make sure your cap doesn´t have too many reflective elements on it, otherwise it´ll interfere with the TIR, and you can´t have the sun shining too much into the room either. alainneedle1
Thank you guys for your input, I'll go with the track IR5 with the clip pro. alainneedle1
OK I took some picture of the mobo with the rams and the CPU cooler on it just to show you how big is this cooler......just crazy. I'm not ready to put everything in the case yet but this will give you an idea of the size... I had to offset the first fan a little cause the rams are too tall...... alainneedle1
Update....ok something new....after realising the Zotac GTX 480 AMP! was covering 3 slot on the mobo (P6X58D) and the PCI-e SSD card was taking another one I was left with no more PCI Express slots.....now that's not good if you have a sound card or another PCI-e card....so I had to return the mobo....snif snif....BUT looking around on newegg I found a combo discount mobo + i7 980X and a saving of $260.00... So I went ahead and got the combo....so no more waiting for the i7 990X (date of release pushed to January 2011) so I should receive everything sometime next week.... here is the mobo..... http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.501090 The mobo was already discounted from the retail price by $50.00.... + the $214.99 discount = $264.99 saving.... Will this mobo be better than the P6X58D for FSX....not really....(maybe a little more on overclocking.. higher GHz on the CPU and more stable) but I will now have all the PCI Express slot I need since this mobo is a 4 x PCI Express X 16 slots... Here is a couple of review on it..... http://www.guru3d.com/article/gigabyte-x58a-ud9-review/ http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/cpu_mainboard/gigabyte_x58a-ud9_and_gtx480_quad_sli_review/
