During World War II, the airport was used as a military base. In 1948, the airport was renamed Palm Beach International Airport. In the 1960s and 1970s, the airport underwent major renovations and expansions to accommodate increasing passenger traffic. In the 1980s, a new terminal building was constructed and a second runway was added in the 1990s.
