ross1562
Hi guys, I am planning on purchasing and installing AU Blue today. I would just like to ask some quick advice if possible. Are there any tips or hints you can offer with the installation as i find with some add-ons, there are various options throughout the install which are unexpected? Is it straight forward? Also, i have heard so much praise and amazing compliments towards the product and FPS. My system specs are: Dell E520, Intell Duo Core 2.6ghz, 3bg ram, 8600GT. Is it as good on FPS as it says it is, as i find that some don't live up to expectations? Finally, it mentions that as a bonus i will get 60 GA airfields. Are these installed automatically with AU Blue or will i need to download from somewhere else? Thanks in advance and sorry for the typical newbie questions. I can not wait to hear back, thanks. Ross. Adrian Lehmann (FSS)
G'day Ross, Installation is a breeze. Once you get past my wrapper the product installs ready to fly. No confusing options to worry about. There have been many users who have reported better FPS after installing FTX but in any case installing FTX onto a clean FSX installation on your system shouldn't give you any grief as far as FPS is concerned. The 60 GA Airfields are available as a separate download from the following page on the Full Terrain website: http://www.fullterrain.com/freeware.html Like FTX the fields installation is very straight forward. Tonnes of people here to help you out should you come up against any issues.
ross1562
Superb mate, thanks for the quick response. You say clean install of FSX, what do you mean by this?
John Venema
Some more tips: 1. Apply all the settings as shown in the User Guide 2. Get performance tuning tip over and above the user manual here: http://orbxsystems.com/forums/index.php?board=33.0 3. Apply all the hotfixes found here: http://orbxsystems.com/forums/index.php?topic=2527.0 4. Download some freebies here: http://orbxsystems.com/forums/index.php?board=35.0 5. If you don't have a payware terrain mesh for Australia, grab Holgermesh here: http://www.fullterrain.com/freeware.html Finally, be prepared to drag your autogen sliders back a little in the main cities. Usually "Normal" to "Dense" is the sweet spot. In rural areas you can typically drag autogen to max on most mid-spec PCs. Your mileage will vary, as it's very much dependant on your PC's state of tuning. Enjoy the ride!

John Venema
Superb mate, thanks for the quick response. You say clean install of FSX, what do you mean by this? A lot of issues which users have reported have been due to numerous addons installed without setting FTX Mode OFF. The most important thing to remember, is if you install other non-Orbx addons, to always turn FTX Mode OFF before the installation, then turn it back on when flying in an FTX region. Some users have found doing a completely fresh install of FSX-SP2, then installing FTX, and finally reinstalling their favourite addons with FTX Mode OFF, resulted in almost all issues being resolved. I would leave that process as a last resort, because for 95% of users, installing FTX over your current FSX installation works perfectly fine
ross1562
Woohoo, i will try instlling it first without uninstalling everything. Mind you, i only have SP1,SP2, Twin Otter X, Cheyenne X installed at the mo after a recent clean up. Just one last question: You mention getting Holgermesh. Won't this type of mesh be included with AU Blue or is this something different? Thanks,
dmrich28
it's pretty fool proof..I forgot to turn FTX off for an addon recently and simply uninstalled it (being addon) turned FTX off like instructions say and proceeded without a problem. Hope to see you online for our Mon/Tues tours once you're up and running. Dave
John Venema
AU BLUE does not include any mesh. So given you only have those two aircraft as addons, I'd download and install Holgermesh which will most definitely improve all of Australia. There is a discussion paper by Bazzam describing what mesh does and how Holgermesh improves things here: http://fsfiles.org/files/ORBX/HolgerMesh_Overview_And_Comparison.zip
Adrian Lehmann (FSS)
Superb mate, thanks for the quick response. You say clean install of FSX, what do you mean by this? Sorry if my rushed response caused concern. I was just highlighting what John said about other add-ons and FTX mode. But by the sounds of it if you only have those aircraft installed you're going to be as happy as a pig in mud with the whole process and especially the end result, like just about everyone else who's bought FTX. Say goodbye to England and hello OZ. Amazing, blown away, beautiful. One last ques: Shall i install the freeware 60 airfields pack? Has anybody else got it and whats it like? Thanks again,
Penzoil3
The freeware strips are a must have ! They are not on the Fsx map, and require some hunting to find. ( Directions come in the manual...) It's worth the effort ! They enhance an already superb add on. I highly recommend getting them. Also, as John said, make sure you get, and install the hot fixes. They are available in one zip file now, which makes it preety painless. Sue
ross1562
Thanks Sue, downloading freewares strips now. I have already downloaded the fixes one by one. I can't believe i have missed this add-on for so long! Awesome. Ross.
gwolb
Only thing to remember is that after flying in FTX areas you will not want to fly in other non-ftx areas! its that good!
