switching from True Earth HD to SD in X-Plane

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I have all true earth products for x plain installed. (the HD version)  into a library folder outside of X-Plane . However, I am running short of SSD space so I am considering switching to the SD version.

I have made a copy of the library to a external drive, I  believe I can switch back to the HD version later without down loading the over 1 TB of scenery again.

However I have no clue as to how I do this!

  • I know I need to uninstall the HD versions to be able to install the SD version
  • I know I can then install the SD versions
  • I know I could then copy the SD version to a external hard drive
  • Then I have will have both, the HD and SD versions on the external drive
  • However, what do I need to do if I don't like the lower quality of the SD versions? and wish to replace them with the copied version of the HD version?

I don't like the thought of re installing the full 1.?? TB again.

Thanks in advance if you can help

Best wishes

Bob

Hello,

once the product is installed, you can move the entire product to a location of your choice.

This is easier if you have used an Orbx Central Library.

I think that once you have moved the files, Orbx Central will see it as not installed and you can install the other version.

You can reverse the process to change back.

Hi Nick

Thanks for the response,

However:

  • I have copied the entire library folder to an external drive
  • My plan was to un install the HD version through Orbx Central
  • Install the SD versions through Orbx Central.
  • ALSO mack a copy of the SD version to the external hard drive

But, my question is

  • If I am not happy with the SD version and I want to go back to the HD version which will be copied to the External drive and not connected to the PC
  • I know I can  copy the HD version back to the SSD
  • But how do I tell Orbx and X Plane to use it?

Up until a few months ago this would not have been an issue as we had the option of manual download, which I always took. So I could have switched without downloading again

I am sure there will be a way to do this but I don't know what it is.

Best wishes

Bob
