Runway Issues at EGML

Recommended Posts

Help please, I'm getting a repeatable issues at EGML Damyns Hall, as follows:-

1) Start a scenario at EGML and it looks fine, I can have a good trundle round. However taxi off to the ground on the far side of the runway and on return the runway appears to have holes in it and you can see through it to dreaded walls below. Please see the examples below. Continue to taxi towards the 'hole' and it fills in at the last moment and you're able to taxi over it.

2) Start a scenario at EGML, take off and fly a wide circuit and on return the runway is a fuzzy poor quality representation that you'd normally see in the far distance and this doesn't change until you're on top of it. NB: It is just the runway that is affected, the surrounding scenery being fine.

3) Start as 2) but land to the side and the runway disappears leaving elevation issues, please see example below. PS: while the runway to the left is too low, the buildings beyond are too high.

I've seen Handie's topic (20th Feb) and no I do not have any freeware addons. I have uninstalled EGML and then reinstalled, but this has made no difference.

Software Info: P3D v4.4 (located in D:\P3D) with the Global Base Pack, Global Vector, openLC Europe, Trees HD and TrueEarth Great Britain South.

Scenery Library: EGML is the 19th entry placed among several other ORBX GB airfield entries (all of which work OK):-
            [Area.267]
            Title=FTX_AA_EGML
            Local=ORBX\FTX_EU\FTX_AA_EGML
            Active=TRUE
            Required=FALSE
            Layer=267

Hardware Info: This is a high spec system (as per my signature) and Task Manager shows I'm using a little over 17GB RAM and 9.7GB graphics memory.

Hi Nick,

No I've just checked have one for EGHP and one for EGTH, but none for EGML. The files I listed where all the files with EGML in the name on the computer.

The holes in the runway are basically brown earth when filled in. Don't know if that helps.

Any other info or tests you want from me? Have the issue of 'holes' happened before?

John

Hi Nick,

I've investigated the EGML issues further and found they only occur with TrueEarth. Regarding the holes, they occur in specific places only, so unless you are at exactly the right point you'll miss them. Please position yourself on the far side of the runway (from the buildings) and on the edge of the runway panel where the colours change and you'll see it is transparent more or less opposite the second concrete marker and this remains transparent as you travel over it. This is the worst 'hole' but there is another further on nearer the trees. Please attached screenshot.

I think this could be a transparency issue that has been exposed by a change of mesh (I am using the Pilot's 2010 FTX Global mesh)  and the transparent spot is not visible when I just I have openLC Europe, not because it is not there but because the Pilot's mesh has not exposed a wall ie. the default scenery is at the same level as the runway panel and so fills in gap.  While TrueEarth has it's own 10-meter mesh which if it is taking priority over the Pilot's mesh could explain the issue. I suspect the transparency on the edge of the runway panel is as a result of the way the dev's have carefully faded out the runway textures as the runway panel crosses over the normal scenery, to prevent an obvious hard line occurring.

I expect the other issues are simply down to slow loading of the EGML files and will hopefully be resolved when LM release v4.5 with the bug fix.

Regards,

John
