EGTH Old Warden Coming Soon!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Continuing our saga of UK airports for X-Plane, I'm pleased to announce EGTH Old Warden for X-Plane 11!

EGTH Old Warden is located near Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. We have tried to capture both the history and natural beauty of the airport and surrounding area. Almost every single object seen in the real airport has been accurately modelled and positioned, allowing you to immerse yourself in a realistic flight simulation environment. Old Warden and the Shuttleworth Collection is a private aerodrome and operates unlicensed. The Collection is situated at Old Warden Aerodrome, one of the few traditional all grass aerodromes still in regular use.

The Shuttleworth Collection depicts the history of flight from the early 1900s to the 1950s and shows how the airplane operated in the pioneering years. It was rapidly developed through necessity during World War I, was used for sport, pleasure and business in the 1920s and 1930s, and once again became a fighting machine in World War II. Grab this piece of history!

Key Features:

  • 15/60cm per pixel ground imagery
  • Static vintage aircraft modelled
  • Includes the nearby Shuttleworth Agricultural College
  • Forests and beautiful green fields
  • Custom modelled vehicles
  • Ground poly apron area
  • Integrates seamlessly into TrueEarth GB South

EGTH will soon be available to purchase from OrbxDirect for AUD $24.95 (approx. USD $17.78 / €15.59 / £13.97).  Remember that if you own EGTH for FSX/P3D, you get 40% off the X-Plane version!

Please note that you will require Orbx Libraries updated and installed to version 1.55 which is also now available. MacOS/Linux users will have the latest libraries included in the cross-platform download available from the support page.

Please also note that for the best experience, we recommend using EGTH in conjunction with TrueEarth Great Britain South. The scenery will work without it, however some users may experience the following:

  • Missing or misplaced forests
  • Missing or misplaced buildings surrounding the airport
  • Photoreal blending

Here are some screenshots from Emmsie, JV, and Jon Murchison - Enjoy!

Very nice, looks great. Will be buying this one for sure, though it does look like it's a straight conversion of the FSX scenery - it could do with a little modernizing. The visitors center has changed and there was a new large hangar built on the East side a few years ago. A few other little things could to with updating like the sign at the gate which is the old one. Hopefully it can be updated some time in the future.

Visited 3 times back in the middle 70's - flying days were always very busy and the crowds were right up to the flight line where various parked aircraft were waiting for the display.

The trees are faithfully reproduced - even the larger group of trees in front of the flight line where a powered blimp lost control and crashed.  Fortunately, nobody hurt - but t'was a shock for all concerned.  We were all watching it in the crowd as the wind blew it nearer and nearer the trees - dreadful to watch.

Never forget this airfield - first time I saw a Spitfire piloted by the late and great Neil Williams.  Think it was the Mark XIX with clipped wings that he flew that day.  Exhilarating to watch.

This will be a definite addition to my library!!

1 hour ago, Buffy Foster said:

The thing I wonder about is, with all the rain the UK gets, how do they keep the grass strip from getting so soggy that planes sink in?

Unfortunately in the real world they do get soggy, and at this time of year they may become unusable for a few days (or weeks).

That's the advantage of a sim, especially xplane as its always summer!
