Guest Private-Cowboy
Just a few minutes ago I came back from a rescue mission. One of those stupid tourists had to be airlifted out of Cradle Mountain NP because of a broken leg. A group came across one of gods funniest creatures (the wombat that is) while hiking in Cradle Mountain NP and one of them broke out in laughter, missed a step, falling and braking a leg. The rest of the group carried the wounded one back to the Cradle Mountain lodge, from where a helicopter rescue was called because the injury required fast transportation to the next hospital. While the helicopter was on its way to the Cradle Mountain strip, the patient was driven to the strip in a jeep from the lodge. Here are a few impressions from the heli pilots view of things.... martinc
MMM, very cool shots. Having summitted CM 4 times i can attest to the stupidity of some of the people who venture up there.......
maxter
Great Pics, thanks for sharing. BTW, does anyone know of the FS site that specialises in rotor craft? I used to have it bookmarked, but I seemed to have lost it. Cheers,
Guest Private-Cowboy
@maxter: I bet you mean http://www.hovercontrol.com/ @martinc: You bet. When we were hiking there properly equipped about two years ago we honestly met people in flip-flops working their way down that incredibly steep track from Marions Lookout to Dove Lake. Holy crap, we had out hands full going that way from the lake up with proper equipment and those people (french by the way they were) were so careless. maxter
Thanks P-C, that the one. Cheers PS, while we are on rotorcraft, I have never been able to fly a helicopter successfully despite having a couple of hours in a R44 IRL (so I know a bit of what the controls are supposed to do). However I was at a mates place a couple of weeks ago who has the Acceleration pack installed and I was able to fly the heli in there quite successfully. Has SP2/Acceleration improved or has it dumbed down the flight model or is that helicopter just easier to fly?
Wolter van der Spoel
Chris, Them Egg-Beaters can be a bit of a pain in the you know where .......... lol As for starters set in your Aircraft control panel the thing to easy so you get the feel of what is doing what, when you feel confident enough set the notches a tick higher and so on till you can fly the thing all sliders maxed it's a "learning" curve with them things .. maxter
Thanks Wolter You're right, patience is the key with these. I went over to Hovercontrol, but I was surprised at the lack of FSX enabled aircraft, let alone SP2... Is this pretty much the norm with heli's? Cheers,
slipstream
Alot of the fs9 helo's work fine in FSX. Also, don't forget www.thelz.com some great payware helo's over there. I must admit the Acc EH101 is the best yet. Good flight model and great eye candy in terms of the VC.
maxter
Thanks for the link Slipstream, much appreciated. Cheers,
martinc
RRR, I/ve got SP2 and accel. loaded and didnt notice the helos were easier to fly (he says just having punched another smoking crater in YMMB's helipad, another R22 bites the dust
maxter
Have you tried the EH101 in Accel. It's the only one I have successfully brought to a hover and landed repeatedly. Cheers
martinc
Not yet, Interesting point though, i've only been flying the pre accel ones. Maybe they tidied up the FD on the Augusta...i'll give it a try.
Biscuit Chucker
Don't worry Maxter, just remember.... 'If the aerofoils are moving faster than the airframe, it must be a helicopter, and therefore unsafe.'
martinc
Yep, What a silly contraption. Inherently unstable in all three axis.....ARRH ! "why do helicopters fly?. They're so ugly the earth repels them "
slipstream
This is the ultimate beast if you want to learn how to fly helo's. The startup procedure on this is second to none. http://www.simnetwork.com/oscommerce/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=26&products_id=175 There is a tutorial on youtube for start-up and shut-down procedures 2 patches and better soundpack here http://nemethdesigns.com/downloads.html
