Dadtom65
Hi. Know this has nothing to do with Orbx but could do with a bit of help. I have a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H motherboard with a AMD 7870 graphics card. My son has bought me a Nvidia 1060 graphics card. Whent to install it this morning and the comp just came up with American , what's the other word and stopped there and wouldn't load any further and whatever we tried didn't help. My son thinks the motherboard needs flashing. Really don't want to go that route. Anybody any ideas that would help. Derek.
Dadtom65
Supposedly the board supports pci 3 which the new card is and I'm running Win 10.
Nick Cooper
Hello Derek, It will be American Megatrends whose BIOS it is. I would suggest that you put the AMD card back in for now. Two suggestions. One, make absolutely sure that you have connected all the correct power supply cables. My 970 has three additional power suppy cables to the sockets on the top. I am pretty sure your son will have done this anyway but it is always good to be sure. Two, you and your son have a good read of the topic I have linked below. It does seem to agree with your son that the motherboard BIOS does need to be updated to accommodate the 1060 and that certain BIOS settings are also required. Updating the BIOS is not too daunting these days, I am sure your son can do it without a problem. http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-3168533/gtx-1060-working-gigabyte-z77x-ed5h.html
Dadtom65
Thanks Nick. Yes my old card had two power sockets, but the new one only has one. Yep will check out the site. Thank you. Derek.
Dadtom65
Right all ok now and did not have to do anything to the bios. All we had to do is change some thing in the bios to legacy and now the new card works fine and what a card, very nice. Derek.
Dadtom65
Not a good post above, I meant we did not have to update the bios just change some thing in the bios. Derek.
Nick Cooper
Good news, probably the BIOS was already the updated version, that topic was not new.
