gotjackson
While flying over Northern California in OpenLC today, I noticed Mt. Lassen ( 40°29′17″N 121°30′18″WCoordinates: 40°29′17″N 121°30′18″W ) at an elevation of just over 10,000 feet had snow-covered peaks (it shouldn't have any snow in mid-August. Meanwhile, farther north, Mt. Shasta (41°24′33″N 122°11′42″WCoordinates: 41°24′33″N 122°11′42″W), 4,000 feet higher in elevation, had none. Other than maybe some small north-facing slopes here and there, I don't believe any California mountains should have snow on the peaks this time of year. It is not uncommon for both Mt. Lassen and Mt. Shasta to have snow during the summer. Not a whole lot, but snow is visible, especially on the northern faces and the peaks. During these drought years, probably less snow than normal, admittedly.
gotjackson
I lived in NCA for 20 years. I'm not saying they couldn't have snow. I guess my point is, why does Lassen have snow and not Shasta? If either of them have snow on them in August, it would be Shasta, not the other way around. I've driven several times from Monterey to Klamath Falls during the summer, and Shasta always seems to have some snow on the upper parts.
